Code rood zegt de #Stookwijzer maar dat weerhoudt de stoker in #Sneek, #Groet en #Barneveld er niet van om de schoorsteen flink te laten roken. #luchtkwaliteit #houtrook #gezondheid

A Dutch government website tells people when weather conditions are such that burning wood is an incredibly irresponsible thing to do. Unfortunate, almost everyone ignores it. At the moment it's showing "code rood" for almost the entire country but the air outside is thick with smoke.
Taking a breath is unhealthy because people keep heating their homes by burning wood. Instead of removing fireplaces from homes, people are installing them. Instead of spending money on insulating or efficient heating they're spending it on installing fireplaces, as if this is the 18th century and we have no other choice...
As a result the air outside is unhealthy and your can't ventilate your home by opening a window. Unfortunately it's also unhealthy to seal your home so that no air comes in.
I've started a DIY project of building a system to ventilate our home only with air that's been pushed through a HEPA filter with a fan. Thus far it's working quite well. No stink inside unless we open a door or window and reasonable co2 concentration.
