Despite the similarities between the (fictional ... I know) tech underlying the replicator, the transporter, and the holodeck, I thought it was a fundamental limitation of the holodeck that anything in and of the holodeck could not be removed.

This is demonstrated several times when Enterprise crew members casually toss things through the door, and they disappear.

I wish #AI talked more like the computer on #StarTrek: emotionless staccato voice, artificially high register with vocabulary limited to the task at hand, no use of the first person pronoun, so you know it's a machine. If it doesn't know something it should just say "Unable to comply" instead of making stuff up. Instead the #llms we have today talk like #holodeck characters with the safeties turned off. Or Mudd's obsequious androids who wanted to "serve" humans in order to enslave them.
