I’ve got my last set of planks layed out, will glue and nail maybe half of these today. I’ve got an interruption as I take photos to an exhibit this week, but I’m hoping to sand and finish within a week. Maybe then I can do some other things: meditate more, back to Tai Chi, weeds out of the garden, etc.

I had spent hours trying to establish a reference line to start the first row of my #hardwoodfloor, but yesterday that all fell apart when I started measuring again against everything else. Nothing is square in this 1864 building. So I layed it out dry to see how it worked, first chunk of it anyway. It worked out, and it was a good exercise. I also discovered when boards were a little curved or had other issues or I needed to work on level a little more. Rift & Quarter sawn beech. Progress.

Working on my #DIY #hardwoodfloor project, which has gone on much longer than I imagined it would, I’ve been listening in earbuds all day to add some interest to the long journey. I had saved up Selected Shorts and New Yorker fiction #podcast, but I’ve burned through them.
Sometimes I listen to music, of course, but I really enjoyed the stories.
Audiobook fiction/science fiction or podcasts or well crafted stories recommendations to listen during carpentry?

Coffee roasters out there, you might already know, there are some really good Ethiopians hitting the green bean vendors right now. Prices up of course. Greens that would have been $7/pound last year are now $10. But it seems like Ethiopia had a really good crop year as far as I can tell, great quality.

#philadelphiainquirer on first glance seems more local and less national/global than WaPo. We'll see. $1 isn't much to try it…

Can’t tell if Sugarbush fired Lucy Welch. I hadn’t read her snow reports before, so I can’t tell her normal style. But today’s is not signed.
They are in a bind. Corporate owned, but if they fire her they are going to feel fire.
Today’s Sugarbush snow report is a room with a very large elephant in it.

Following up my Seurat post, one of my images. I like the way there is a sort of #postimpressionist rather #pointillist background, the shallow depth of field, behind the rather minimal subject in the plane of focus, the leaf and splash-circle. Made with a vintage lens. #photography #water #foliage #bokeh #vermont

Been tied up with another hardwood flooring project, and other stuff, and given the state of the world, I hardly even know what to say about anything besides, “Yikes,” or stronger statements along those lines.
Obsessed with #woodstoves, as a way of thinking about something besides the horror of the world.
Had a dream last night where anyone could be arrested for anything.
Will get back to mastondoning when I finish this floor, unless it finishes me first.

Old New England rhyme:
Candlemas Day, Candlemas Day
Half your wood, and half your hay.Candlemas day is tomorrow. How about ALL my wood.
I'm at least through the '25 - '26 planned wood. Luckily I'm two years ahead, but getting into less optimal dryness. If I also go through the planned '26-27 pile, I'm going to hit Maple cut last fall.

Today is a mini split day, a mid January day in Vermont that will get into the 40s. (Mini split is super cheap to run in this weather, and will save me hauling wood for the day).
The soapstone stove is still 100F from 16 pounds of wood burned 14 hours ago. First time the stove has been this cool since getting it, and this cat found it right away. Other cat, taking a more conservative approach.
