  1. I'll speak about using maps in performance, video, & public art this Thurs, 19 Sep, @MaptimeAMS (#Maptime #Amsterdam) hosted by TomTom at their offices. Two other speakers on the program, quite different topics, should be good! boost if so moved, thanks. meetup.com/maptime-ams/events/ #ASynesthetesAtlas #IfMaps

  3. On the negative side, @floledermann, those platforms send alerts to attendees about how to score points by uploading photographs or doing other activities. I find that annoying but many participate/compete, so apparently there's a demand for it.

  4. My post was about how expectations shift w/the proliferation of new technologies, @floledermann. NACIS, State of the Map, FOSS4G, RGS-IGB, even AAG don't qualify as commercially run for-profit conferences to me but they're using platforms where, on the plus side, it's simple to see full abstract & not just title, to peruse full schedule & create one's own subset, to get daily updates of schedule changes, & it's trivial to scan QR code of attendees who didn't pack business cards.

  5. I only learned/was reminded that there's a opening ceremony/keynote/icebreaker in a few hours because I wanted to make sure I covered everything in my abstract, went looking, but the online program only lists titles.

"You will receive a printed program on-site."

  6. I haven't kvetched about it but I *hate* the gamifaction of conference program planners like Whova & Ex Ordo. There's a need for searchable conference programs & creating your own schedule but these programs slap on the worst of shopping apps & LinkedIn: people *need* leaderboards for inane blather & sideways photos, reminders 24/7!

Unanticipated side effect: I could have missed the opening events for . 0 messaging apart from registration fees & copyright surrender weeks ago.

  7. Fri @ State of the Map Europe ended w/a planetarium lightshow–Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here–at EC1, a former power plant. Research trip for me (dome projection!) + pleased that people who'd attended my talk imagined my maps in that space.

Also pleased w/the projector that kept dropping out, puncturing the illusion w/a fuzzy black rectangle. Similar to tile latency in this performance w/Sean Ocean @ Other Cinema.

  8. You'd have to say that "State of the Map" is @openstreetmap's franchise for annual conferences. They exist by continent/region and you may recall that I travelled to Salt Lake City last month to talk about my practice at State of the Map US.

The recording of that talk's been published on YouTube. Amazing I got through a very dense deck in 15 minutes even with all the time-filling & embarrassing "um"s.

  9. Spent last Apr & May in Chicago after a performance at NU's Block Cinema. One of many screenings I attended while there was “Adwa: An African Victory” w/Haile Gerima in-person, which drew many Black activists and artists. Found myself sitting next to travis of ONO; told him I had photos of their Lakefill gig where he was playing on the hood of an old Impala. Finally scanned the negs.

    Most likely 20 May 1984.

  10. Feeling great about the space for Sunday's performance of A Synesthete's Atlas at MING Studios here in Boise. Live cartographic improvisations with Krispen Hartung (guitar) and Aaron Davis (keyboard).

Plenty of floor space for dancing about geography.

  11. Took an ambitious stroll around Salt Lake City yesterday after wrapped. 95° F!

Stayed hydrated (partly on artesian well water served at street level), had such a good breakfast of biscuits and gravy at Café Niche that I’m going back before heading to the airport. Could be corned beef hash.

  12. On Friday I'll speak @ /#SaltLakeCity about the latest of my ; a 10 minute animation that looped atop SalesforceTower while I was February's Midnight Artist. Built with @maplibre + @protomaps + @openstreetmap.

Packing video as no support for an in-town performance ever materialized, remains to be seen if video projection is even an option for my talk.
