Attended a recital of piano pieces by American composers in Feb: Adams/American Berserk, Ives/Celestial Railroad, Gershwin/Songbook, Rzewski/Down by the Riverside. Grateful to hear mostly unfamiliar works, knocked out by pianist, Christopher Harto; resolved to work with him.
⅓ of my Sunday set will be a duet w/Christopher: projected maps & improvisation on themes by Ravel.
& my set's only ⅓ of the program.
Suki O’Kane & Graham Viegut will perform the piece Shahrzad Talebi & I composed for Line Upon Line as part of the inaugural season of dadageek’s CAST (Austin). West Coast premiere, West Oakland Sound Series, Oakland, CA; Sun, 28 Jun, 7:15p.

maps - geography = labels & icons (w/apologies to Niklaus Wirth).
Projection surface @ #dadaLab is 4 screens wide: 2 at back, 2 on sides. For my collab w/ #ShahrzadTalebi I created maps that fill ⅛, ⅕, ¼, ⅓, ½, multiples thereof, & full screen.
First viewing in situ; needs tweaks before rehearsals & Sat premiere but pleased.

By day, I spoke to a class + a less formal group at Penn State's Geography Department. By night, I performed at Manny’s Performance Space.
Kris Pylant was along for the ride, asked what would be useful to me. I said: hands + iPad, projected map in the background. Kris nailed it.

I find myself having to switch git branches between pieces during a performance. Conceptually it's equivalent to retuning or fitting a capo to a guitar but the consequences when it's done wrong are far more catastrophic.
Making my way east from Pittsburgh and, after speaking to geography classes at Penn State today I'll be presenting A Synesthete's Atlas tonight at Manny's Performance Space in State College, Pennsylvania.

I often call up the hyperdesigned street grid of the Argentinian capital, La Plata … here it's partially obscured with place of interest names rendered in a redaction script.

This will likely be the only performance in SF proper this year.

You'd have to say that "State of the Map" is @openstreetmap's franchise for annual conferences. They exist by continent/region and you may recall that I travelled to Salt Lake City last month to talk about my practice at State of the Map US.
The recording of that talk's been published on YouTube. Amazing I got through a very dense deck in 15 minutes even with all the time-filling & embarrassing "um"s.
