Nearly a year later, I find myself going back to this post and adding its settings to get a sane #scrollbar on #Firefox.
It's annoying that despite Mozilla dropping Motif for GTK+ in their browser back when they open-sourced their browser, they still didn't consider maybe using the native UI widgets that GTK+ provided?
My chosen GTK+ emulates a nice retro OS/2 theme, which is actually rather quite usable on a #tablet #touchscreen. It's not the classical Motif UI of historical Unix, but it's usable. Another good choice would be the classic MacOS UI… or maybe 90s era Windows. Make those a little beefier on a touchscreen and you'd have quite a usable UI for both desktops and touchscreens.
But… Firefox and Chromium UI devs know better apparently.

Thanks to #GCCrs that will soon include #Rust

That got a lot of backlash (from lots of people who said that the approach is bad and completely ignored bootstrapping), but they are going through with it and are making good progress: https://rust-gcc.github.io/

I've seen https://arewedecentralizedyet.online on HN today, and it's ötter bs, makes me angry.
Why?
- website doesn't work without js. but it totally could.
- we don't need a website for every chart grafic data that could be just posted as regular post
- it got hundreds of comments on HN, while HN still not allowing guest comments without registration, neither via ActivityPubRegarding the biased representation of the website itself. I'm not a fan of BS (or bitch@). Somehow only 2 projects showcased, completely ignoring other real decentralized alternatives like ZeroNet, AutonomiDweb, @librecast, nostr, Freenet \ Hyphanet, Scuttlebot, Retroshare, Etherium, blockchain-based projects, #LBRY , dApps, etc

I do prefer using Fediverse+ActivityPub over BS. However, what irratates me is data representation of belief that many servers\instances on many domains on many clients are good actors and sign of decentralization. It might be good under perfect weather conditions, but it is not protected against Sybill attack, 51% attack, bots, sockpuppetry etc ...
If Jack\BS spawn hundreds of servers under hundred domains with LLMs larping as humans, to look more "decentralized" on https://arewedecentralizedyet.online - you don't have software or algorythmic protection from that.
Applications mentioned above could offer an such protection, but they lacks of modern developers & resources.turns out that's a site of Rob Ricci, a research professor (I wonder if CS?) who built cloud infrastructre (so he should be aware of how easy is to spin hundreds of vm's with 1 click)
@happyborg I do believe that network protocol projects, such as AutonomiDweb, should be in hands of Non-Profits.
ActivityPub specification, standartisation is in hands of non profit w3c.
I've thought Mastodon Gmbh is a commercial company from Germany, but internet says it's 503 Non profit in US. I won't mind if private company does fair business with FLOSS.

I am super proud of this #3dprinting filament splice. 🎉 Spent way too long on doing 10+ of these, but I salvaged half a kilo of a material that's out of stock waiting on next production run that I thought was gone after a mishap with hot spots while drying it.

This exploit write-up features #musl 1.1.24, whose oldmalloc (dlmalloc-like) was used to convert the exploitable bug in the application into an arbitrary write primitive.
musl 1.2.1 or later, with mallocng, would probably have rendered this non-exploitable or would have at least required non-malloc-based approaches to exploiting the initial application bug.
