I looked at them, unable to answer, because there was nowhere safe. Bombings and attacks were everywhere. Just a few days earlier, there had been a bombing at a beach resort, and many innocent people had been killed.
But I didn't tell them. They had suffered enough from fear, bombings, deprivation, and having their childhoods stolen. I said, "I'll take you in a few days. I promise I'll make your little hearts happy." I'm sure of one thing: I will, and always will, do everything I can for my children.
