  1. @dekkzz76 I did & I loved it! However, early thi.ng projects (2011-2016) already made the "mistake" of using a socially unaccepted format (i.e. #OrgMode Literate Programming), which with very few exceptions basically stopped almost all 3rd party contributions, even though I still believe it was a superior format/solution for writing big projects...

    A few years later I then bowed to pressure and converted one of the projects to a traditional source code setup, with the literate .org files remaining as archive/reference. Choosing Fossil would be an even more extreme barrier for adoption/contributions, esp. these days... sad, but true, but we live in a #WorseIsBetter world!

  2. @dekkzz76 We hadn’t gotten around to this one until now, but we’ve enjoyed several others with similar noir flavor (like #TheValhallaMurders and #Trapped).

  3. @dekkzz76 You might like this place. Take a virtual tour. I make a point to visit, in person, a few times each year, for a real retro "fix" 🙂

    No worries, thanks for the clarification.

    I never learned any #RISC #architectures; I didn't have time when I was at #DEC to learn the #Alpha's #instructionset. 😔 The closest I've come is things like #PIC's #microcontroller instructions. Not quite the same thing.

    If I ever fire up any of the Alphas in my attic, maybe I'll learn it then. Unless there's a Web #VM #sandbox out there somewhere.

    I'll cop to VAXen not being mainframish, but the #ControlData #CYBER systems definitely were. Seymour Cray's they were, predecessors of his actual Cray-1 IIRC. And with the wackiest architecture I've seen in my puff.

    When I looked at the source that #JamesGosling ported to #OpenVMS for #Eunice, the display driver code had a giant #asciiart 🏴‍☠️ skull & crossbones in it. There was a warning along the lines of, "DO NOT TOUCH. If you think you understand this code, YOU'RE WRONG."

    Ah, #goodtimes..

    I am not sure honestly that the language emacs lisp is lacking so much. But I am not an expert. AFAIK the guile thing was done at a point where there was no native compilation for #EmacsLisp , which we now have thanks to #libgcc. The feeling of the 90s, I don't know, I like the style of #emacs personally but if you want something mor# flashy maybe take a look at #DoomEmacs or #SpaceMacs, of course it won't be vscode but well. There are projects also like #CliMacs but well..

  17. @jackbaty @dekkzz76 @nathell @worldsendless In my personal life, I'm using #mutt with #vim (and #slrn, #zsh, screen->#tmux) since decades on a server. Only my business #MUA (#evolution) is installed on my business host. See also karl-voit.at/apps-I-am-using/ #PIM #email

  18. @pglpm There is an alternative front-end to escape #StackExchange called #AnonymousOverflow which liberates the content from the #walledGarden. But it would be an improvement to have an option that gets the content completely out of that jail, and indeed a federated mechanism could theoretically help add redundency & share the hosting costs. /cc @dekkzz76
