  1. Spring Roses
    Alameda, NM

The rose thicket beneath the bedroom window is starting to bloom. Here is a photo from last year back in the days when we still got rain in New Mexico.

  2. Shafer Trail Switchbacks
    Canyonlands National Park, UT

This is the way you get down to that road seen in yesterday's photo. You can see that exact road at the left side of this photo. Yes, it's a long way down!

Not everyone likes these steep switchbacks, but the road is well maintained and fairly wide as these things go; plenty of places to pass a vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

I forgot to mention in yesterday's post: this is in the Island in the Sky District of the park.

  7. Shafer Trail and White Rim Trail
    Canyonlands National Park, UT

The La Sal Mountains in the far background allow me to apply #MountainMonday

Photo is taken from atop the Shafer Switchbacks. The road below is common to both trails with Shafer branching to the left just before the cut of the deeper canyon in the center of the photo.

You may notice the white sandstone along the right top edge of that canyon—this is the "White Rim" from which the trail takes its name.

  12. Variegated Meadowhawk
    Albuquerque, NM

Last week riding on the levee trail an orangish dragonfly quickly crossed my path. The shape matches this species and based on historical record this species may be active in NM this early in the season. So this is my educated guess.
