Today I learned about the Caller Information Attributes in .NET.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/csharp/language-reference/attributes/caller-information
These attributes make it easy to get information about a caller at runtime. For example, getting the name of the calling member, or the specific expression that was passed as an argument.
`CallerArgumentExpressionAttribute` is especially interesting. More details are available in the draft feature spec: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/csharp/language-reference/proposals/csharp-10.0/caller-argument-expression

So what do I think of the Arai XD4 motorcycle helmet? I love it!
I've had it for a couple of days now, and took it on today's adventure ride.
The XD4 is extremely comfortable - maybe even more comfortable than the Shoei Neotec 3. Importantly for me, it doesn't aggravate my right ear and make it sore when wearing earplugs.

After 8,200 km, I've got a new rear tyre fitted to the Honda CRF300 Rally: a Dunlop D605. It's a knobby 50/50 dual sport tyre.
The stock IRC tyres have been ok for me, but all of the other CRF300 riders seem to hate them. Looking forward to seeing how the D605 goes. I'm already planning to join friends for another adventure ride at the end of the month.

While playing Improbable Island, a combat encounter with a crab turned out to be a L'Etranger joke.
I mentioned before that this game is absurd, and I meant it. 🤣
If you enjoy web browser games and you aren't playing Improbable Island, then you're missing out.

My latest addiction is Improbable Island, an old-school browser game.
https://www.improbableisland.com
It's made and run by one guy, with a great sense of humour. If you enjoy reading, Monty Python, and absurdity, you'll probably love this game.
Also, check out the awesome Code of Conduct. It's a very long read, but it really sold me on this game and its community.

I've got a new rear tyre on the way for the Honda CRF300 Rally: a Dunlop D605.
It's a 50/50 tyre. I do almost all my riding on the road, but I love the versatility of knobbies, and the odd adventure ride. I've heard good things about the price and performance of this tyre, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.
My stock rear tyre has got nearly 8,000 km on it. That's probably as far as it'll get before the (legally) usable tread is gone.

Tomorrow I start returning home, but there'll be more stops and photos along the way.
The Honda CRF300 Rally has been amazing, and achieves every goal I had for it.
While it's no proper road tourer, it's comfortable enough and can take me anywhere with ease thanks to the massive dual-sport wheels and tall suspension. I spend 95% of my time on sealed roads, but this bike really gives me the confidence to tackle any kind of unsealed road or terrain I find.

It's been almost 2,000 km since my CRF300 Rally's engine last cut out and refused to start.
I'm still not sure what causes it, but I tried a couple of suggestions I received and read online:
* I stopped using discount petrol. The theory here is that big brand petrol has better additives and is less likely to have water and dirt contamination.
* I fixed the excessive clutch lever free play.Hopefully it's fixed for good. 🤞🏻

Unfortunately, the rear brake on my Honda CRF300 Rally started squealing again after a few hundred km. Now they're squeaky as ever.
So far I've tried:
* Cleaning the disc and pads with brake cleaner and sandpaper
* Replacing the pads with new onesThe disc doesn't seem to be warped, as far as I can tell.
As a final effort to fix this myself, I've cleaned the brakes again and added brake lube between the calipers and pistons. Hopefully that sorts it. 🤞🏻

Since I got into motorcycling, my gaming has dropped off a cliff. So have most of my hobbies, actually. 😅

I didn't end up going motocamping tonight. However, one of the silent motocamping channels I follow has made up for it by releasing a new video!
https://youtu.be/5Ybt4Xkb674?si=hRhe6q2cXVUWjiHO
I'll be camping in my backyard tonight. It's cooled down a little bit, so it should be pleasant.

I think I've figured out the reason why my Shoei Neotec 3 is so uncomfortable with earplugs. It's always my right ear that hurts, so I must have a small scratch in the ear canal or something.
I'm taking a bit of a break from riding and earplugs so that it hopefully heals up. Next week is supposed to be very rainy anyway, so that should be easy.
I had planned to go on a solo camping trip tonight to test my new tent, but I'll be camping in the backyard instead.

I've had my Shoei Neotec 3 helmet for three weeks now. How's it going?
I removed my Honda CRF300 Rally's windshield to increase airflow during the Summer. This has reduced the noise from my helmet's top vent, but it's still very noisy compared to the chin vent.
The flip lid and massive viewport are great for airflow. I can open the visor or the whole lid for tonnes of fresh air. Good for the heat. I've kept the chin curtain off for the same reason.

King Dude was awesome live. Well worth travelling from Queensland. He's pretty down to earth, and even manned his own merch stall before and after his set, so I was able to buy this shirt from the King himself!

This weekend I'm visiting the Big Smoke (Melbourne) to see King Dude live.
I've been waiting years for this chance. Should be an awesome show.
If you like dark folk music, don't miss out.🤘🏻

Just replaced the rear brake pads in my Honda CRF300 Rally.
The rear brakes have been squealing like crazy since about 1,000 km. I've tried using brake cleaner, scrubbing the rotor, and sanding the original brake pads down, but that hasn't fixed it. If anything, it might've made the squealing worse.
I think I must've contaminated the brake pads with chain lube or something, so hopefully these new brake pads do the job. 🏍️

I've now had my Honda CRF300 Rally for three months and 4,600 km. Time for an update. 🏍️
This bike is without a doubt the best possible bike I could have chosen for my needs. I'm still absolutely stoked by it!
Like an addict, I'm constantly looking at other bikes for prospective upgrades, but I've not found anything that I wish I had bought instead or would be better overall. Zero regrets.

Apparently Doom Metal is the genre of the week!
Doom is my favourite music genre by far, and I could post recommendations all day.
However, I'll show some restraint and recommend just one of my favourites: Cirith Ungol by Reverend Bizarre.
https://youtu.be/lFCIITJcXGk?si=3zuqbO60PTbReaJT
It's a haunting song about the Ringbearer's journey to Mordor.

Actually, there is one significant criticism I can give the CRF300: the engine likes to cut out (not stall) under heavy braking and/or downshifting from speeds of 80-100 km/hr to zero.
It's happened to me three times now, and also to a friend with his CRF250 Rally. No idea why.
Afterward, the bike doesn't like to start again. The starter charges and fires when pressed, but the engine doesn't turn over without jimmying the throttle for several minutes.

This is a great review of the Honda CRF300 Rally from a relatively inexperienced rider like me, and pretty well matched my own experiences with the bike.

Very easy to ride, utilitarian, and reliable; just the way I like it.
I've reached 4,400 km on my Rally now, and my only real criticism is that I wish it had just *a little* more power, but I can fix that with performance mods when I get my full license next year.

Twenty-five Shoei Neotec 3 helmets in white have finally arrived in Australia, and I just put a deposit down for one.
I've been planning to upgrade to a Neotec for a while, and the launch of the new Neotec 3 is the perfect time to pull the trigger.
I'm looking forward to being able to take a drink of water without taking my helmet off! In the longer term, I'll get the integrated Sena comms module so I can use my phone while touring.

I've had some time to take the Garmin InReach Mini 2 out for a bit of a spin, mostly just using it as a regular GPS to track my motorcycle rides.
One of the unexpectedly fantastic features is that it can automatically synchronise waypoints and recorded tracks to and from the Garmin Explore app on my phone. From there, I can also export them to GPX format and use them in any other app.
This is *significantly* better than transferring to/from my old GPSMap 64s over Mini USB.
-
My Garmin InReach Mini 2 arrived.
Initial impressions are really positive. It's solid, compact, and light. Perfect for clipping to your gear with the included carabiner (couldn't do that with my GPSMap 64s).
At this stage, my only complaint is that the buttons are hard to press and their positions make it awkward to use with one hand - but I suppose that's the trade-off for small size. It's no substitute for a regular GPS, and it's not supposed to be.
-
Thanks for everyone's feedback on the Garmin InReach.
After looking over the competitors available here in Aus, and PLBs, I settled on the InReach Mini 2. It's expensive, but I like the compact size and features. Compared to a PLB, I want to have the option of contacting family to come get me in a non-emergency situation, like a bike breakdown outside of cell reception.
Should be good. Soon I'll be able to hit the 4WD trails alone for some practice.
