Ugh, sorting through some old alpha-fold predictions and find something that looks quite strong but have no clue why I was looking at that protein pair. *sigh*

Welp I forgot my pants again. I need to get a new pair of emergency pants for my office because the current ones are pre-pandemic and won't do in a pinch, because they do much more than pinch these days.

This is an interesting paper from Min Lui and Alan Jian Zhu about EHPB1 inhibiting the clathrin adaptor protein1 (AP1) to ensure wingless is delivered to both the apical and basolateral surfaces.

Hey Ann Arbor regional people,
There is an open house to hear and comment on the plans for improving US-23 from Plymouth to I-94 on October 21. This is sure to impact the B to B trail under US23. Learn more about the plans and open house here:

Hi Folks,
I'm considering trying vermicompost this year because our kitchen scraps serve as deer food in the compost pile.
Any tips? I'm considering just using the worms from my compost pile and not red wigglers since they are not native and can easily escape.
I'm planning to use the three-bucket method.

Hi, All. I'm looking to join/nucleate a support accountability group for mid-career molecular biosciences people. Basically, it would be a weekly or more frequent check-in on goals and struggles. Do you have any suggestions?

From the annals of Alphafold surfing, I was looking at some yeast-specific genes in preparation for a talk that will feature what you can learn by studying yeast-specific genes.
Look at this beauty:
ECM33-somehow involved in glucose uptake, extracellular GPI anchored protein.

What's the best format for a research community to share information and resources?
I recently attended a GRC and one of the attendees wanted to start a LinkedIn group for our field so we can more easily communicate with one another about upcoming events, publications, or discoveries of bad reagents.
The only examples I have of this are e-mail feeds like the pombe listserv.

Ok downer Debbie here. If you’ve got rats and slugs mingling in a garden you eat from. Make sure you cook everything or wash it extremely well to remove all slugs.

Because it is the start of the month, I'm indexing my notebook and seeing that there is a whole set of really exciting protein multimer predictions that still need to be done.
Of course, our clusters are down for summer maintenance this week. ugh.
I'm so tempted to use the browser-based colabfold, but I should just wait for the clusters.
I'm very impatient.

If you've led or attended a Power Hour for a GRC, I'd like to hear what strategies worked well and what didn't.
I'll be running one later this month. One issue I've seen in past power hours is power differentials. Specifically, PIs dominate in small-group discussions. Did you do anything to address this?
If you are a trainee/ECR, did the power hour empower you? If so how, or if not what could have been improved?
Please boost.

Hey #membranetraffic ppl. Wanna learn about the most important protein family that you’ve probably never heard of?
I’m giving a talk at membrane traffic online this Thursday 11am est on the heatr5 family of proteins.
Thanks to Felix Fran and Ishier for the invite!!

We're getting a second e-bike in the household today! I couldn't convince my partner to take my slightly too-small-for-me e-bike (that'd fit them well) and let me buy a new one, but I'm excited that we're going to go more days entirely car-free.
I may still sell my e-bike and get one that fits me better. I should have known that my legs are too long to go with the suggested size/height ratio.

This was the sort of week I live for in science. I'm not sure if this will go anywhere but it's always super exciting to try new techniques.

Another ~30F temperature whiplash day. 26F on the ride in 55 on the ride home.
Glad I don't have to shop this evening my bags are full of clothes.

I am clearly not a fan of the #BetterPoster approach where you basically have a big text box in the middle.
