Maintenance begins at creation, so why are we not creating better?

The beats are the same. You work for government, or academia (lets face it, that’s probably where 90% of the work is) you have a deliverable; you save it; you print to PDF; you store it on an institutional repository with some metadata (or Zenodo, OSF or equivalent) and its done.

There’s a small chance that it’s FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) right? It has metadata that can be discovered by an audience looking for it and can be indexed by search engines. The data is potentially accessible if published correctly. They’re not particularly interoperable or easily converted, and PDFs aren’t really designed for reuse, even if tools like Apache Tika help ease the burden of extracting artifacts. It’s just a PDF, why are we even talking about FAIR? There begins a story…

Doctors Without Borders goes #betterposter! Our #ScienceUX community created an evidence-based poster template to improve science communication at the DWB/MSF Pediatric conference this year.

@basepair Inkscape (or CorelDraw/Illustrator if they happen to be on the same computer as I do).
I was about to press InDesign/Scribus option for that, but I think it makes a difference for some people, so it went as "other".

Once I did an online html version "clickable" by qr, with some panel graphics turned to animation (I wanted to try quarto/RStudio). Some people liked it, but I'm afraid in general it was opposite to the #betterposter ^^"

As of 2024, how do you preferably create a conference poster?

I’ve used PowerPoint before, not gonna lie. Open to suggestions, even if it means learning new stuff.

Bonus question: did anyone try the „#betterposter“ design and could share real life experience? How did people interact?

I am clearly not a fan of the #BetterPoster approach where you basically have a big text box in the middle.

If you loved (or hated!) #betterposter, I’ll be releasing a new cartoon tomorrow with new designs for peer review tools to speed up the process without sacrificing rigor.

Hey all! I'm a work psychology #phd with a tech background who's really into #UXDesign.
