  6. #wayland #hikari #stackingwm

    Hey all,

I think I mentioned before about resurrecting the hikari wayland compositor (hikari.acmelabs.space) which seems not to be in active development.

What I've done is spent quite a bit of time upgrading hikari from wlroots-0.15 -> wlroots-0.19.2

The efforts of this can be seen on this branch:

    codeberg.org/thomasadam/hikari

On the `ta/wlroots-0.19` branch (the default branch for now in this repo).

If you'd like to use #got, see:

    thomas.gothub.org/repos/?actio

This will be kept in sync with codeberg.

I think seems seem mostly working. Testing welcome though!

In addition to upgrading the wlroots version, I've also added the option to use #meson instead of #bmake

Any problems, file an issue on the repo, or speak to me directly.

Unofficially for now, I'm also lurking in the IRC #hikari channel on libera.chat, if that's more convenient.

  11. Organizing #fluConf2026 was a little hectic due to some personal constraints, and it's quite clear we'll need more people involved in order to make #fluConf2027 a reality.

If you're interested in helping to make that happen, please get in touch by joining the IRC channel (#flu-conf on Libera Chat).

  21. @drwx not at the moment but I have a couple projects in the works that I want to plonk on there, it remains to be seen if I get any over the line tho.

are you on IRC? I'm spinning back up there in #B4UDW3RK5 on libera.chat/ - I'd love to have you

  22. 42: #GNU is the answer.

It started exactly #FourtyTwo years ago:
    gnu.org/gnu/initial-announceme

    🎆 🎇 🌠

Since I found this nowhere else on the web, I started collecting birthday greetings and other info about gnu 42:
    draketo.de/software/gnu-42

Just write your greetings or a link here or write via IRC in #gnu @ libera.chat to get added to the list.

  23. #libucl #configuration #formats

libucl -- a universal configuration library:

    github.com/vstakhov/libucl

A really interesting project, and a premise which really works for different configurations.

This Is BSD-based, and is used in a lot of FreeBSD projects: #hikari. #pkg from #freebsd, etc.

I'm trying to give it some love as it needs it.

To that end, I have created the #libucl #irc channel on irc.libera.chat

Those of you interested, come by, say "hello".

    I hope the maintainer(s) of #libucl do likewise. :)

  24. @dlakelan I believe you can generate Guix, VM or ISO from Guix itself, but when in doubt, these communication channels are your best bet.

    Guix XMPP channel
    - conversations.im/j/[email protected]

    - #guix on irc.libera.chat

    - #nonguix an irc.libera.chat

    Guix system doc
    - guix.gnu.org/manual/en/html_no

    :)

  25. Due to a outage of our communication channels we set up temporary rooms to join for now to keep us connected. We will inform you if everything is back up again, so please don't leave the official rooms and just join the temporary ones for now. We apologize for the circumstances.

  26. Is this really the end of HexChat?

    "Developers All Hands On Deck"

There are not that many irc clients, although the Protocol for real-time Internet chat and messaging is extremely popular in the free open software community and there are an infinite number of users and developers on all kinds of topics exchanged in the channels.

What a great and moving moment it was, after which the freenode server was corrupted by the selfishness of one person and the "former" staff not only issued a warning, but also libera.chat was founded! In no time at all, all channels of the free software scene migrated from freenode to Libera.chat, a few, such as #kali-linux, migrated to the oftc or others, but then let themselves be represented via channel bots on libera.chat to keep the connection.. And it was kept! And the connections are still in place!
From my point of view, this great movement is the most beautiful example of unity among the free-thinking FOSS, FLOSS, FSF people ever!

Internet Relay Chat protocol is more alive than ever and that's why projects like Hexchat can't die!

The alternatives I can think of would be Weechat and irssi (commandline).

Or ChatZilla in the browser (Seamonkey).. unfortunately, I personally can't think of many more possibilities right now.

  27. Sigrok Website Down After Hosting Data Loss

When it comes to open source signal analysis software for logic analyzers and many other sensors, Sigrok is pretty much the only game in town. Unfortunately after an issue with the server hosting, the website, wiki, and other documentation is down until a new hosting provider is found and the site migrated. This leaves just the downloads active, as well as the IRC channel (#sigrok) over at Libera.chat.

This is not the first time that the Sigrok site has gone down, but this time it seems that it’s more final. Although it seems a new server will be set up over the coming days, this will do little to assuage those who have been ringing the alarm bells about the Sigrok project. Currently access to documentation is unavailable, except via the WaybackMachine’s archive.

A tragic reality of FOSS projects is that they are not immortal, with them requiring constant time, money and effort to keep servers running and software maintained. This might be a good point for those who have a stake in Sigrok to consider what the project means to them, and what it might mean if it were to shutdown.
