#techjoy We replaced a leaking traditional hot water heater with a Rinnai tankless heater a bit more than 10 years ago. With 3 teenagers, the endless supply of hot water is a double-edged sword since no one ever runs out. We’re on city water with exceptional pressure, and the tankless does a great job. Last year, we started getting some error codes, but I was able to DIY diagnose and replace a failing blower motor, and we’re back in business. #homeimprovement

In the past I also ran a variety of #Minecraft servers for the kids, an Apache Guacamole server to allow the #CyberPatriot teams I coach to compete remotely during C19, and an instance of https://github.com/alan412/ev3hub for the #lego #robotics teams I coached to use for source control. It’s fun to have the capacity to just spin up a VM to play around with some new/interesting/useful tech. 3/3

#techjoy Since the days of Windows Home Server (I wrote a book back then https://a.co/d/bSK2hQn) I have been running a server in the home. After WHS met its rapid demise, I moved things over to run on a variety of VMs - Currently I’m running qemu/libvirt/kvm on Ubuntu 22, and have several VMs running. 1/3

#techjoy When we re-did our kitchen our contractor convinced us to include under-cabinet LED lighting. The lighting is great, but what’s even better is that I was able to replace the controller with one that is Zigbee enabled, so we have a schedule to turn the lights on/off, and adjust color temperature and brightness throughout the day. Getting the controller to work on a schedule with Hubitat required some custom code and experimentation. #homeautomation #zigbee
