  2. @infravermelho Have a closer look at wmlive.sourceforge.net for inspiration.
A new release based on Debian/Trixie 13.5 is planned for next week.

  3. Debian packages for 34.2.0 compiled with gtk2 for amd64/arm64/i386 have been uploaded to wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/pool/m .

Variants for bookworm are distinguishable by the subrelease version 0wmlive0, and those for trixie by the subrelease version 0wmlive1.

  4. @jloc0 Not sure what revision of the PBP you have, but on mine it was possible to install derivate using the arm64 ISO image from wmlive.sourceforge.net and Wi-Fi works. Might be necessary to have a recent towboot installed on its SPI to enable EFI boot, though.

  5. The packages at wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/pool/main/p/previous/ have been updated to version 4.1-r1777.
The binary packages were built for target release Debian/Trixie and CPU architectures i386, amd64, and arm64.

  6. @palemoon
I am suprised and absolutely delighted to find out only now that palemoon also supports gopher, unlike most (if not all) other more common browsers. Thanks for having this feature!

  7. @gaufff
Are the required langpack extension packages installed and activated in each user's mozilla profile folder? If yes, then Firefox should be able to automatically discern the language to use based on the user's $LOCALE settings.
For , this was solved by supplying preconfigured mozilla extension configurations, which are automatically personalized for each user during account creation. See the content of package wmlive-base at wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/pool/m .
    1/2

  8. @dantheta That's the default theme of as can be seen in the screenshots at wmlive.sourceforge.net .

  9. There used to be a video demonstration of at wmlive.sourceforge.net but no more.

The video hosting company started to impose age verification by acquiring biometric data of a face scan via smartphone camera.
So i decided to terminate relations and had them delete my account.

In the long run, i expect to be fully shut out from all these modern technical facilities turning our shared reality into a high tech prison.

I can't ever consent to such blatant tech vigilance measures.

  10. @inlovewithpda Using a mix of , , , , and , depending on the context.
The one and only browser suitable for everything does not exist.

  11. @palemoon
In context of the project, updated gtk2 based 34.0.1 debian packages for i386, amd64, and arm64 have been made available here:

    wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/pool/m

The packages using the minor distribution version 0wmlive0 are for bookworm, and those with minor distribution version 0wmlive1 are for trixie.

    Thanks for creating the browser!

  12. @yetiinabox @quixoticgeek
Don't own a NeXT and wouldn't want to have one. The only NeXT aspect of interest to me is the OS and software. There is no need to bother with slow old hardware thanks to

I own a HP 715/64 runnning its PA-RISC NeXTSTEP 3.3 version, though. Nonetheless, it's never used for anything and i would rather sell it to someone offering a generous amount of cash for it.

Got OPENSTEP installed on an old 15" Thinkpad T60 with a gorgeous UXGA screen and just love it.

  13. An new version matching Debian/Trixie point release 13.3 has been made available, this time without any donation requirements.

    Check it out at wmlive.sourceforge.net

The former requirement for a donation has been dropped as it didn't generate any sufficient increase in donations, and rather resulted in wasting even more time with donator access management.

  14. The packages at wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/pool/m have been updated to its current 4.0-r1747 version.
The builds are based on libsdl3 version 3.2.10 as offered in Debian/Trixie, which is the target release these packages have been built for.
As usual, packages for i386, amd64, and arm64 have been provided.

There will be no further builds for Debian/Bookworm, as it doesn't include any libsdl3 support packages.

  15. @distrowatch
This more or less sums up the main motivation for the project.
It tries to preserve well matured technology, that has proven to work over many years, while trying to sparingly integrate newer elements, but without falling for any hype trends. Practical capabilities in computing are not software features, but a reflection of the intellect and mind creating and using them. Being both conservative and innovative at the same time is the best way forward.

  16. @_the_cloud @me_
Given IBM/Redhat's focus on big business customers, the interest in supporting vintage hardware platforms and associated operating systems is probably only an afterthought nowadays.
For the m68k platform, the very best NeXT hardware emulator is 'previous'. Works really great on sufficiently fast host computers, be it x86_64 or aarch64. See previous.nextcommunity.net (yes, no https available) for further details.
includes previous as part of the base system.

  17. Instead of waiting until the end of the year for the disclosure of the passphrase to unpack the encrypted 7z archives of the amd64 and arm64 variants of , the Christmas holidays are probably the best time to enjoy playing with it already.

So here is the passphrase: ThanksForYourSupport

    Downloads are available from wmlive.sourceforge.net

  18. Just verified the current #wmlive version for arm64 boots just fine on a #PinebookPro, thanks to #towboot enabling UEFI booting. This also includes the graphical Debian installer, so no more fiddling with the serial console.

  19. The current #wmlive distribution based on #Debian / Trixie includes a few custom graphical tools that were relatively easy to create by combining bash shell scripting in combination with the included gtk2 version of #yad.

As an example, this screenshot here shows a graphical frontend for the dpigs command contained in wmlive, and it is actually just a shell script.

  20. Window Maker Live based on Debian/Trixie 13.2 has been released!

For the first time, it is offered for all three architectures i386, amd64, and also arm64.

    #windowmaker #gnustep #debian #linux

    wmlive.sourceforge.net

  21. The source code for the #wmlive build tree has been made available at sourceforge.net/projects/wmliv to allow custom wmlive builds.

Except for the i386 variant, the soon to be uploaded iso images will be contained in an encrypted 7z archive requiring a password to be unpacked.

Until the password will be made freely available at the end of the year, only supporters who donated will receive the password.

Fellow open source developers with proven contributions may receive the password upon request.

  22. After a few weeks' worth of work and debugging, the #wmlive package repository at wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/ has finally been updated with a new branch named wmlive-trixie. This branch contains all the wmlive specific packages required to build wmlive-trixie ISO images.

  25. Good news for users of Pentium class machines:
It is perfectly possible to build a fully functional Franken-wmlive for 32-bit combining the Bookworm installer/kernel with the Debian/Trixie i386 software pool.
So, unless a showstopper suggests otherwise, there will also be an i386 version of #wmlive.

  27. We plan to publish a new #wmlive version based on Debian/Trixie stable point release 13.2 for the week after its scheduled release on Saturday, 15th November 2025.
Work on wmlive-trixie is already in progress but still requires significant time for completion. To invest the required time needed to accomplish the planned end goal we do need some financial support.
    Boosts are very welcome!
    Thanks for your help!

  28. An experimental build of #wmlive for aarch64/arm64 has been made available at sourceforge.net/projects/wmliv

It boots and appears to work as expected within a QEMU virtual machine environment, including installation to (virtual) disk. It has not been tested or verified to function on any real world bare metal system.

If you are curious, try this at your own risk and let me know how it goes. I'm especially interested in feedback of people trying this on real hardware like a Raspberry Pi.

  29. Andreas Grabher has released version 3.9 of the #NeXT emulator #Previous at sourceforge.net/projects/previ.

Updated Debian/Bookworm packages of previous 3.9 for i386, amd64, and arm64 are now available from wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/pool/m.

  30. For those building the wmlive ISO images themselves, build sources wmlive-bookworm-12.9.1.tar.xz was uploaded to sourceforge. Notable changes:

    * Switch to backport kernel version 6.12.9 for amd64 ISO.

    * Add build-config/wmlive-opt/*/throttled-0.11.tar.xz into build tree.

Additionally, included helper packages wmlive-base and wmlive-installer have some bugs fixed.
