Registered. Not signed up for tutorials today. Going to spend time hanging in the hallways now that I found a handy outlet to charge my laptop.

“There’s also the underlying unreliability of hallucination-prone Large Language Models. While a premium request chasing its tail and spitting out half-broken code might be frustrating, that same fuckup is a lot less forgivable when you’re paying the costs yourself.”

#WNC #smokymountains I bought a chainsaw. Cleared some limbs. But. Am I just a dilettante mountain man? Have chainsaw; doesn’t use it but once?
Clearing another tree today. Had to top up the oil. So. That makes me feel a little less of a poser.
Now I need to work on making straighter cut without twisting the blade so it binds.

We don’t live in bear central AKA Buncombe county. But. Something knocked some of our bird feeders over last night.
Maybe an ambitious raccoon or opossum was climbing up the porch railing. Or. Maybe a bear found it confusing and left before messing with everything on the porch.
Bringing in the feeders for the evening seems prudent.
People neighbor’s trash can was dumped, so, it looks like our bear neighbors are back with for the summer. They’re rough. But quiet.
-
This hurt. It got worse, though.
-
Yes. Two of the same hands. Weird, right? Did anyone shuffle?
-
Opponent had this. I almost had a heart attack.
(The three fives and a jack is soooo close to the largest possible gabs.)
-
What to discard? To flush or not to flush, that is the question.
(Opponent’s crib.)
-
Don’t see this too often. Not a great score. But. Remarkable.
-
No picture. But.
Missed dropping a double skunking on the opponent. Missed by one point. I could only get to the stink hole. They rounded on to third street, cackling with glee.
It was a big skunking: 55 point difference.
Gloat on their side: even though I mugginsed two points from them, I still couldn’t close out a double skunking.

9/19. Is there anyone your antagonist misses or longs for?
A person? Well… that’s complicated. The details of their mystical working isn’t part of the text.
But.
The inspiration is a story of folks trying to summon BABALON in the Mojave desert, on a quest for an “elemental mate.”
A person? A spirit? Hard to say what was going on.

8/31. To ConLang or not to ConLang? Ever been tempted to invent a language for your writing?
Yes. My fantasy series has a conlang. And some pretty sophisticated translation tools. As a #Python expert, I’ve got some code using #NLTK that can translate parsed phrases from English to the conlang. Plus a lexicon generator.
-
Don’t see this very often. Not a HUGE score, but it’s cool.
-
My crib. What do I do? Give myself the pair on tens and hope for some 10-point starter? Or give myself a pair of aces?
-
An awesome hand. Well... Potentially awesome.

I'm dealer, what do I do?
-
A little more on this topic.

I think that will do for introductory material.
-
Some notes I started gathering. As if there aren't dozens of sites with cribbage information. Mine (at least) is ad-free.

Not “huge”. But. This was the opponent’s crib.
I was barely onto fourth street to avoid being left in the lurch.
An earlier hand had two flushes of clubs with a club starter. Dealer and opponent. The other suits were on vacation, I guess.
-
A few nights ago, opponent had something like this. Tonight I got a great hand and pulled out a victory.
-
Opponent pulled way out in front with this. Killer hand.
-
Okay, this was wonderful. But. Barely enough to avoid being left in the lurch. I made the corner and pegged only 1 on 4th street.
-
Could not overcome this. Opponent has first count at the end of 4th street and turned this hand into a win.
-
Whoa! Lots of points. Opponent didn’t shriek and leap around when the 5 transformed a 4 point hand into this giant.
(I lost big-time. Not left in the lurch. But. Took the “L”.)
-
That’s something i don’t see too often. 24 points.
We ended this game with both in the stinkhole. I dropped a 4 on 27 getting me 31 in play and squeaking out a win.

#knitting #needlecraft #yarnchicken
Will they finish the toe? Or. Are they doomed to use a few inches of non-matching yarn?

#Packt Gave me a great opportunity to revise my Modern Python Cookbook. After a lot of rewriting -- and ton of help from editors and technical reviewers -- I think the current edition has 130 or so useful recipes.

Chapters 7&8 focus on object-oriented programming. I'm looking forward to working on a new edition of Python 3 Object-Oriented Programming. This will let me dive deeper into this specific subject area.

#climateChangeDenial Approached by a government weather control nutcase (I wanted to ask about chemtrails and flat earth). They had photocopies of an old newspaper article (which tabloid? I wanted to ask) that was too small to read. On the flip side, parts of the story were reproduced larger so one could — my partner stopped them there and sent them packing.

#sailing #sailboat #commissioning
Turned off shore power. Watched the solar panels all morning. Something’s not right.
Isolate the banks. The engine start battery is dead. 62lbs of lead and acid. 10’ from the ground. Great care required.
After the sun went down battery voltage stabilized at 12.9V. Very healthy.
Tomorrow we’ll see if she starts. Then we can change the oil.
-
Arrived at the boat. She’s a mess, but it seems like a manageable mess. The dehumidifier kept the inside reasonably dry and with minimal mildew. (None obviously visible. No smell.)
Two years of rain on deck with no wash down means some mildew and mud on deck.
Mud.
How does mud get 10’ in the air to land on deck? I’m guessing it’s 2 years of boatyard dust.

Why does #bignews #media companies call them “anti-abortion activists” and not “anti-healthcare cultists?”
(Anyone that calls the cultists “pro-life” is repeating propaganda and worthy of being blocked.)
I’m wondering about a lot of conservative nonsense that might be more clearly labeled as cult-membership.
The small government cultists.
The state’s rights cultists.
The election fraud cultists.
Can we start lobbying editors and publishers to make the change?

Weather. Hurricane Nicole, specifically.
The boat was blasted off its jackstands by hurricane Ian. This track passes N of us, but there will be rain. And wind.
