After fixing the transmission and shaft seal issues on my #sailboat, I set off southwards.
Winds were light, so I was motor sailing.
Down below, I smelled diesel, quickly traced to a leak (squirt squirt) in the high pressure side.
Engine off, sailed back upwind and into the nearest port - thankfully my boat sails well in light winds. Spent the evening pumping diesel out of the bilge and cleaning up.Time for that electric motor…

It’s been hard work, and I still wasn’t sure until afloat it would be successful, but but it seems I’ve fixed the driveshaft leak on my boat!
I *think* the problem was old front engine mounts - I’d replaced the rear ones, but was advised the fronts were ok. Under power the shaft seal was spurting water, my theory is that the engine was pivoting over the new rear mounts, flexing the drivetrain and causing the leak.

I *think* I’ve found the problem.
Shaft is pretty well centred at the outboard end of the stern tube, but not at the inboard end. That might be enough to cause the seal rotor and bellows to flex apart when motoring. I only spotted this because I took the seal completely off to check it.I’m seriously considering an electric pod drive..
