@PaulBusch So if the Coast Guard sees a boat that they think is smuggling things in, they call the RCMP, who then send in their own boat to intercept? That seems like an unwise use of resources, particularly when the RCMP seem to be over-stretched with different tasks.

The late-night change came the same day media outlets, led by WaPo, discovered that the #CoastGuard had written a policy…that called those same symbols “potentially divisive.” The term was a shift from a years-long policy…that said symbols like swastikas & nooses were “widely identified with oppression or hatred” & called their display “a potential #hate incident.”

Previous guidance put in place in 2019 said #USCG commanders could order #swastikas, #nooses or other symbols to be removed even if it was determined the display did not rise to the level of a #hate incident. That policy was enacted months after a #CoastGuard officer, Lt Christopher Hasson, was charged with plotting a large-scale attack on Democratic lawmakers, including then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Most #US citizens don't realize that we have multiple armies (#Army, #Marines), air forces (#AirForce, #Navy), #SpecialForces (#Rangers, #GreenBeret, #EOD, #Seals, etc.), navies (Navy, #CoastGuard), and two militaries (#CIA; all the above, plus more).
More relevant considering the situation in #Russia.
It's wasteful in its redundancy but maybe makes it more difficult to mount an overt #military #coup.
But they've kinda done it quietly.
