Jeg har vist tabt i #yarnchicken. Jeg har 15 gram garn tilbage og hurtigt hovedregning fortæller mig at jeg skal bruge tyve. En firkant bruger 4,5 gram og jeg mangler fem. Her har jeg ikke taget sammen hækling med. Jeg slutter med en bane på fire. Heldigvis har jeg lignende tråd men svagt mere lyserød. Det bliver så kant. En meget bred kant. Pyt. Det er hvad der sker når man bruger “tideligere elsket” garn. Ja, garnet blev købt i røde kors for få penge.

I have defeated the Yarn Chicken!

Yesterday it was nearly 80F/27C* and I finally finished the Harlow Worsted hat I've been working on the last couple of months of winter.

I'm really happy with how it turned out! This should go nicely with the Wheat Scarf that I made using the same golden colored yarn. It's taller than the one I made with Oni's fur so I can get better ear coverage while still folding up the brim for contrast, and I think I got the height spot on this time.

I like strategic design decisions to combat the yarn chicken. I wasn't sure I'd be able to complete the crown with the golden yarn I had left, so I added in the graduated stripes in gray to make the gold last longer. It worked! I kind of wish I'd started the stripes lower down now. I think it has more character than if I'd simply switched to all gray when the gold ran out, as was my original plan.

Tantalisingly close to finishing a sock (my first ever!) on a round loom.. but I lost yarn chicken and have to wait untill I can buy more of the same.

It's a tube sock with ribbed cuff and as I used a loom, that somehow ~feels~ like cheating?* even though I am definitely a beginner and only just realised the pattern is apparently advanced 👀😑

Am #knitting something with thicker wool than pattern recommends and am 36 rows into 80 rows of approx 100 (?) row pattern and already eyeing half ball of yarn and doing *intense* yarn chicken.

But not the picot edge. The plan was to just finish with the all double #crochet row to give it a clean border.

I've a set amount of yarn and when I got close to the end I thought one more repeat would be in it. I'm now about to start that dc row and it's obvious there won't be enough yarn.

So I'm trying if it's enough yarn to do a single crochet row.

Aujourd'hui j'ai appris l'expression "yarn chicken" : il s'agit, en tricot ou crochet, de commencer un rang ou un motif en fin de pelote, sans savoir si on a assez de fil pour le terminer.

Ça me parle beaucoup, j'ai souvent fait ça et je suis ravi d'apprendre que ça a un nom ! :shibasmug:

Ça vient de l'expression "chicken game" en anglais et certain.es utilisent l'expression "poulet de laine" en français mais j'aime moins car traduit littéralement, ça ne veut rien dire. Mais bon, "gagner ou perdre le poulet de laine" se dit aussi. 🧶🐓
