  1. Three weeks have passed since our public MVP reveal. We're thrilled to report that all 25 early-bird slots have sold out; thank you! 😍

Weird v0.4 is now out! Introducing Themes & Revisions.

  2. Is there a common practice for how to automatically detect the social icon of a fediverse site-link when adding it to a ‘personal links’ section like in GitHub? We’re trying to implement this for #weirdone

  3. @erlend oh yes! Thank you for reminding me, was planning on making a zine out of it. I'll get on that too.

Great to hear you're using Willow! Their approach to protocol design inspired a lot of the conclusions in the thesis as well ~

Checked out #weirdone last night, will try it out for sure!

Edit: ps, I skimmed the documentation and got the impression you were running over ipfs, did you switch or running a merge somehow? *research curiosity intensifies*

  4. @zelf sounds marvelous. I’m gonna try to make my way through it (we’re using Willow in #weirdone after all) but 90 pages of academic text is admittedly a bit intimidating to me, although what I skimmed so far was quite legible to me 😌

Just to check, I don’t suppose there’s like a ~10 page version of this in the works for laypeople?

  5. First step towards fediverse compatibility in #WeirdOne is complete!

All Weird sites (which can have custom domains like my erlend.sh) now automatically verify against Mastodon & co. ✅

  6. HOLY MOLY – Weird is now publicly available to all!

Our v0.3 mvp is finally done after a year of development and many more spent pondering cozy community design.

Today it's a minimalistic personal site generator. Before long it'll be a social network made of people's personal websites.

  7. We would like to run an #activitypub instance as part of the #weirdone platform, same as the excellent #omglol by @prami

This instance will be operated as a paid extension of Weird, costing $10/yr ($20/yr after beta).

All member subscriptions will go entirely to the AP instance hosters, which should be a team of at least 2-3 sysadmins & moderators tending to the instance part-time. This is expected to be a fairly low-volume instance since all members are paid (to begin with).

  8. What kind of company does Weird aspire to be?

    blog.muni.town/weird-inc/

Must we consider ourselves a ‘possible future adversary’ of the open product and ecosystem we’re caringly shaping and seeding as founders?

Abiding by non-extractive practices means doing business on hard mode, but it’s a fun puzzle.

We believe the most realistic and sustainable way of realizing that outcome is with old-fashioned commerce:

    1. Make product
    2. Sell product
    3. Return to step 1

  9. Here’s our roadmap for Weird going into 2025!

We already have a proof-of-concept importer for Mastodon as a backup of your posts & connections.

  10. Homeownership on the web is highly analogous to the physical world. Modern homeownership is mostly a story of home-rentership, not real ownership.

Incredibly, this matches the online experience, even though the World Wide Web has an infinite amount of real-estate!

You deserve a home on the web that’s built to keep you safe; a magical place for virtual living that‘s yours for life, existing in a sociable web.
