Being a Prime Minister (or a President) has I think two main functions
1. To stop the ship of state from sinking
2. To help the citizens aboard influence what course they’re onOur dilemma is that for at least half a century successive leaders have set a course that’s sinking and are too compromised to invite a different one

Is history linear or cyclic?
Mark Twain said: "History doesn't repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme".
Strictly linear economic progress will be catastrophic for humans, as cumulative, never-ending growth is actually going to be unsustainable.Therefore innovation itself needs to be more cyclic to fit within the constraints of the planet.
It's counterintuitive but biology gives us clues to the way forward
