Hello #FediAsk, what the heck is this and how is it used?

This #thing turned up on my desk and... what?

It's like a big mechanical keyboard key (twice the surface area of a regular key), but with a little handle on top, two springs, and the bottom has a little, very sharp knife point in it. You can press down on the thingy's orange cap and the knifepointybit will start pricking down below the thingy's bottom.

There's two of 'em stuck on a little pad of foam.

It's pretty fascinating, actually, along with all the problems we're having with bad/lazy admin'd instances, I'm also seeing some real uniqueness beginning to appear in terms of instance culture.

I was lamenting that we have no #WeirdTwitter here, but #WeirdMastodon is coming along pretty nicely.

(this is mostly inspired by a few beige.party folks talking about their server, and then me noticing that yah, a lot of accounts I like come from there...)

I count today as my official #Mastodoniversarry!

I started on Mastodon.social, then went to infosec.exchange before the c̶u̶l̶t̶ welcoming community at beige.party sucked me in with their p̶r̶o̶m̶i̶s̶e̶s̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶e̶t̶e̶r̶n̶a̶l̶ ̶l̶i̶f̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶d̶e̶m̶i̶s̶e̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶e̶n̶e̶m̶i̶e̶s̶ love and kindness.

I didn't officially log out of #Twitter until the 19th (when he reinstated the Orange Fascist), but I was basically done there a year ago today and began working on the #Mastodon experience for myself.

I kept the bots running there for another week or so (the 25th, I believe) until Apartheid Daddy's stupid mods killed my #API keys for "spamming another user's mentions"... even though the other user was another one of my bots... morons.

a year later and I get all I want online from here. there's news if you look, lots of humor and even #weirdmastodon exists and is as fucked up as you want it. my blocklist is fewer than 10 people somehow as well.

I may bring a bot to Sky just because I'm a #programmer at heart and an API whore, so it'd more for tech testing than anything else.

So let's keep it going for years to come on this sore aging parent website, folks!

There is only one @dril though, and although that account purports to have been handed over to him in 2018, he has done nothing with it.

I feel like #WeirdMastodon won't really happen until the blurryjack has opined upon it.

i hear complaints about migrating to #mastodon and missing out on similar content from the #nazibar but seriously...both #funnymastodon and #weirdmastodon exist here, people.

you just gotta follow the right people who boost the other right people then follow those people.

unlike the other place where your #follows and #likes get scrutinized and targeted, no one seems to give a crap here about who or what you enjoy.

My new favorite weird thing about #Mastodon is that there is a really cool hashtag named #LichenSubscribe. It's full of wonderful photos of lichen and is worth following.

My previous favorite weird thing was the Mastodon #Instance where you can only post using the letter "e" as if you were a dolphin. It has a lot of members.

@SpockResists I’m encouraged, certainly; am hoping #weirdmastodon becomes a thing! I have yet to hashtag with gusto, but am especially excited about #literature, #wildlife, #film, and fellow #writers. And #Bowie. Always and above all, Bowie.

@TIMESCANNER I am hoping that #WeirdMastodon manifests itself soon... or that I can figure out where it's already manifesting.
