Alberobello is a small town in Puglia in southern Italy with a quarter of houses known as 'Trulli' which describes the roofs which are set in a decorative pinnacle. The story is that when the Italian tax collectors came, the houses were built on drystone so easily dismantled to avoid tax.

Pre-pandemic I lived in #Italy, and was lucky enough to have a work trip to #Puglia, within striking distance of #Alberobello. These extraordinary traditional houses (#trulli) are a World Heritage Site, dating as early as the 15th century, and some of them have these mysterious symbols painted on the roofs. They're believed to be a mixture of religious #symbolism (possibly with pagan roots) and astrological meaning.
