Yup, audio passthrough in order to allow my audio system to handle the TrueHD Atmos streams is still missing.

Looks like tvOS 18.1 beta is available. 18 didn’t bring audio passthrough, and I’m not expecting it in 18.1. I know Apple really wants to control the audio experience and all that, but it’s breaking things, not making it better.

In any case, let’s take a look…

Кстати, вчерашний день потратил на уменьшение своей коллекции онямешек с 50 Гб до 25 Гб. Да ещё некоторые тайтлы перекачал в 1080р.

Видео - первое что ищем - #AV1, если нет, то #H265, можно и #H264, но только если мало весит.
Звук - нахуй все ваши #Flac, #AAC и #TrueHD, конвертируем всё в #Opus 128k. Оставляем только оригинальную дорожку.
Субтитры - оставляем только русские. #Ass, #UTF8.
Аттачменты - убираем всё, что не ломает ваши сабы.

Unfortunately it appears tvOS 18 does not bring TrueHD Atmos support. It’s not a matter of lack of hardware support. It’s a licensed technology.

So I’ll continue to depend on a sketchy device when I want a better theater experience for now.

Looks like tvOS 18 will not be bringing TrueHD Atmos. So it appears the only way to actually use that is to use a sketchy android box.

Infuse (tvOS app I use to access Jellyfin) has an update note for Atmos support. So far as I know, DD+ Atmos has been there for years, but Apple didn’t allow TrueHD Atmos. As far as I can see, Apple hasn’t changed this. None of my TrueHD Atmos content is working correctly, still.

So I’m grabbing the tvOS 17.5 beta to see if something happened there.

I really want Atmos to work, damn it.
