Woke up annoyed by the hundreds of dollars and extended legal process (including finding newspapers that still actually publish legal notices) involved in changing my #transkid's name – whereas if you get married, you can just *say* your name changed.

Hoping that process ends today.

I'm going to get to lead a #CyberSecurity #IncidentResponse team as an Incident Response Manager and I'm super stoked.

I was down in the dumps when I learned my current job wouldn't let me go full-time remote and the outpouring of support from the Fediverse and #FediHire communities gave me the encouragement I needed to land an offer faster than I've ever managed before.

Also, dolla-dolla-bills,y'all. :ms_green_money:

The number of people who have said "Wow, you're such an amazing parent for moving to another state to protect your #TransKid" makes me realize how little we actually prioritize taking care of each other as a society. I don't feel like our decision to move should be notable in any way.

Of course the *reason* we need to move is downright genocidal, but that's a different conversation.

A recruiter recently asked me "What's got you looking for a new job and what are you hoping to find?"

The "right" answer is something like "I'm looking for a new challenge" or "hoping to gain more broad experience" or "hoping to move into leadership."

The answer I gave was the real one: I have a #TransKid and my state is trying to criminalize gender affirming care for kids so we're moving and I can't take my job with me.

Could that cost me an opportunity? Yep. Sure could and I would never know it.

But the thing is, this is the truth. It's the reason my family is moving thousands of miles. It's a big part of my life. It's a major source of stress. Either I get hired by a company who is willing to accept that and work with me while I contribute to their team or they reject me and it wasn't a good fit anyway.

I recognize that I am incredibly privileged to work in a field which has consistent demand for people with my skills. Not everyone can job hunt this way.

@robotfactory FWIW. In my experience with at least one #transkid, I feel that the community in DC-area Montgomery county MD has been very supportive. All those little encounters with doctors, dentists, government offices, and especially schools have been near universally supportive. Not hard to find experienced support specialists/therapists either or to get needed care. I’d hope it would be like this everywhere. I guess, there are tons of opportunities for your kind of work as well.

In 20 minutes I have my first one-on-one meeting with my manager since I got word from our COO that I can't take my job remote when we move to protect our #TransKid. This should be totally cool and normal.

I swear that the entire #CyberSecurity metaverse saw my post the other day about hunting for a new job getting ready to move my #TransKid to a safer state. Over 1,400 people boosted the post and hundreds of others interacted or commented.

I've got a few good leads, but if anyone has anything else to share I'm glad to hear about it.

Thank you EVERYONE for all the support. You definitely helped me get out of the funk the dumb news put me in.

We’re in WA now, but any future move to KS to save on living expenses is unlikely because if democrats ever lose the state house my #TransKid won’t be able to get his meds. I’m not down with that risk. I wish they’d just let us parent.

I'd never seen #TransKid on Mastodon until today - I don't roam the Fedi... I'm either going to filter out the tag or go on constant rants about transtrenders permanently fucking up their kids lives.

Moving out of Ohio to keep my #TransKid safe and my current employer won't let me take my hybrid job full remote, despite the reason.

Anyone got any full remote #CyberSecurity jobs open? I'm a blue teamer with experience in incident response, endpoint protection, email security, and SIEM engineering. Can probably settle in to #ThreatHunting or #ThreatIntel pretty quickly too!
