  1. Okay fediverse, help me out here.

Find me a tiling window manager that allows me to configure a hard limit on the number of tiles per screen/workspace/whatever.

  6. In looking at my previous posts, you might think that I hate my computer mouse! Untrue! For certain tasks, a computer mouse is simply better. That said, the keyboard is often superior. Software that encourages a keyboard centric workflow, like Tiling Window Managers, can increase your potential productivity. I say potential, because once your fingers move at the speed of thought, then the only thing left to do is to think faster!

  8. Me, watching 80s sci-fi in the 90s:
"That's cute, but there's no way computers will work like that. GUIs are the future!"

    Me, in the future:
"Thank God for , I almost never have to touch a mouse!!"

  13. I've used a variety of traditional desktop environments ever since I started using Linux, but I've never really had a reason to try any tiling window managers.

Now that Wayland is here, I am really interested in trying out either Hyprland or Sway. I'd really like to know what you all prefer and why.

  18. My summer project will be playing around with a tiling window manager in order to see if I can thread the accessibility needle.

On desktop, it's tiring/frustrating/slow to go from mouse to keyboard and back again. I don't have the same issues with a laptop because the trackpad is right there... I don't have to completely disengage from the keyboard to use it.

    The problem I
do have with keyboard-only control schemes are the combinations used to do anything useful. I cannot do something like shift+ctrl+whatever. My hands simply don't work that way.

Tiling window managers are interesting to me because, like just about everything else open source, they're extremely customizable. I'm going to see if I can create a scheme I can use well on the desktop. If so, I'll share my config.

  25. @[email protected] Good video by @thelinuxcast about . I’ve been thinking about trying one out, & Matt’s demonstration certainly helped. His use of workspaces instead of windows is similar to what I’ve been trying out in GNOME, just with keyboard shortcuts instead of trackpad gestures… 🤔

Think I might have to throw on a spare SSD and give it a whirl.

used to be the . Then it was . Now I think TWMs might be the TRUE “dark side.”

  30. @chadmichael @dsbeans No problem, I prefer a mostly vanilla #gnome experience as well, although I pretty much exclusively use #tilingWindowManagers these days
