Do you have the same problem? Or can you reproduce it?

We struggle with setting up smtp.office365.com with Thunderbird for Android (with OAUTH2.0). It is working for desktop version, but not the mobile version…

Can you confirm that there is a problem with the latest version of the app?

I've been using K-9 Mail since ... I dunno ... forever, and I wouldn't switch to any other mail app unless forced to. So I guess huge thanks to @[email protected]

Das neue UI von #k9mail aka #thunderbirdforandroid sieht zwar schick aus, aber die UX ist schlechter als vorher (gut, nach so vielen Jahren K9-Nutzung weiß ich so langsam die Farben auswendig, aber praktisch ist das nicht gerade)

Da öffnest du am Morgen deine E-Mail-App, und das Design ist total anders. Sorry liebes @thunderbird Team, so was macht man nicht. Habe nun ein Downgrade von @k9mail durchgeführt und Upgrades deaktiviert. Werde mir in den nächsten Tagen wohl einen anderen E-Mail-Client für Android suchen.

I may be misunderstanding something, but it looks like K-9 Mail has been taken over by Mozilla Thunderbird and is now (at least in the F-Droid/Droid-ify app store) calling itself "Thunderbird for Android". The original com.fsck.k9 version is being called "Thunderbird Beta for Testers".

I'm not sure what to make of this. :/

The initial #ThunderbirdForAndroid release is cool. Has a few UX bugs which I expect to get ironed out by the time of release. But glaringly, #ThunderbirdSync is missing and that was that I was most excited about. I'm hoping we get an update about that from the #Thunderbird team.

Talking of #K9email and essentially #ThunderbirdForAndroid, it's interesting to look at from the outside in. K9 fans are adamant that it's the gold standard in #Android email apps. #FOSS enthusiasts will swear by #FairEmail and anyone that's objectively impartial will tell you both could do better, for different reasons.

K9 has a bunch of legacy debt and it's unfortunate that they'll bring that over to #Thunderbird. If you were designing a brand new email app from the ground up, it would do a lot of things differently than how K9 does them and to appease the userbase, that will likely remain the case forever.

FairEmail does better in a bunch of ways, but also has too many options and irregular UX components. Needless ones at that. Like the bottom bar. The weird padding on the top bar and the choice of assets. Seriously, just use material icons. They're available online for free!
