  1. Back in my day, we generated our own memes using scissors! We didn't need no stinkin' meme generator.

Well, well, well; I never knew Raymond Baxter played the organ. (Or was it his missus?)

Does anyone remember when a tech breakthrough was when 5% 1/4w Carbon Film resistors where replaced by 2% 1/2w Metal Film resistors IN THE SAME PACKAGE.

Whhoooaaa. Mind blowing advancement that was.

Or, when Fairchild put a diode buffer on the input of CMOS Series 4000 chips so you could actually look at them without blowing them up.

    Awesome, game changing stuff.

When the 7400 series of TTL chips was expanded to include the LS series, then the C, HC, HCTTL range. All while maintaining the 14 pin DIL footprint?

    Man, those were the days.

You may ask, why do I mention this era?

Its just a reminder that advances in technology have already replaced millions and millions of fully paid, human occupied, jobs in the pursuit of faster, smaller, less power consuming products.

In this case an entire manufacturing, distribution and assembly industry, worldwide. Thanks TSMC et al.

So, to those worried about AI replacing them, don't panic too much, get used to it, its happened to me and it'll happen again after the AI cull. Its the nature of the beast that is electronics.

And, even at 65 y.o. and after 57 years of accidentally blowing stuff up I learn something new nearly everyday, and I still love it.

So relax, it could be worse. Your name could be a syntax error and your dad could be Elon Musk.

    Remember these "patriots?"
It was 2012, I believe and ooh were they pissed.

I assume a lot crossed over that mental health breakdown into Maga land.

  6. None other than Ken Thompson shared a little Unix memoir last week for . Doesn't matter where you started with computers, Ken was there before you.

Thanks, Ken. You and Dennis really started something.

  7. Ah #TheGoodOldDays when you could smoke in the hospital courtesy of a funeral home

  8. I’ve always told myself, I’m not nostalgic. I don’t have any particular attachment for yesterday.

Until I caught myself yesterday, on a beautiful rainy evening, telling myself, this is just how it used to be. And realised that every good feeling now, links back to good memories of yore

    So #NoteToSelf :

    - it’s ok. nostalgia is good mostly
    - in the humdrum of the daily grind, look for moments of joy
    - sometimes take the time out to actively go experience new, novel things
    - be present. appreciate today for what it gives you.
    - and if you keep going back. be grateful for the good memories. just don’t get stuck there
