  1. My college life in 1973: Living in an eight by twenty-four camper in the Hillside Trailer Park outside State College, and driving a large, over-powered Dodge Coronet. No one gets nostalgic about steering rear-wheel-drive cars in the snow. #olddays #oldendays #twentiethcentury #blizzard #snow #snowstorm #snowstorms #statecollege #pennstate #dodge #plymouth #hillsidetrailerpark #trailerpark #trailerparks #affordablehousing #nomoreaffordablehousing #affordablehousinginstatecollege

  5. After seeing today's Lateral episode (this is not a spoiler btw), I was reminded of the days when sites would use pop-up licences on their websites. Specifically, the ones where the text in the pop-ups was editable - because someone fucked up.

You could literally delete some/all the text and write whatever you wanted in its place. Then you'd click the ACCEPT button and it'd work.

I'm still owed billions of dollars as well as several first-born children.

  10. 🌅🚜 A nostalgic tale of rural life: hard work, simple pleasures, strong family bonds, community connections, and traditional values in a slower-paced world before technology transformed everyday living. 🍲👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 #OldenDays #Farm #rural #progress #traditions #society #family

  11. Does anyone else remember the time when those who could afford a #webcam and had #xDSL instead of the others who still had 56k dialup, had websites with a tiny image from their webcam that updated every minute or more?

One of those sites was #dansaa.com, I had no idea who this Chelsea was but watching her and her friends partying out in front of the camera was something so new and amazing I couldn't stop watching the "stream".

  14. Random memory of life before the internet.

In the early 1980s I discovered the existence and general shenanigans of the Society of Creative Anachronism by reading a couple of copies of a poorly-printed magazine published by the Kingdom Of The West that I found in a cardboard box of free-please-take trash outside a used bookstore.

The nearest chapter was at least 500 miles from my house. I never was an SCA member, but those weird zines made me a fan!

I just shared a recipe that was endlessly copied across the internet when I first published it. (Dal Makhani). It reminded me that there were no ethics in those days around the direct copying of material from others without attribution - whole copies of my early files appeared everywhere, as did recipes (especially this one) when I moved to a blogging platform.

Personally there was a tension between my belief that recipes SHOULD be shared freely, and wanting recognition for my work.

In the end I just shrugged my shoulders and went, whatever, except if they were clearly building a reputation or making money. I'd ask them to take them down. Some were devious. Most complied.

Most bloggers learnt quickly to put a line in a recipe stating "the original recipe appears here <link>" Most copiers were not savvy enough to remove the line 😂😂
