the bad news, #visionOS v2 beta 1 doesn’t change the situation for #tapprtv. The good news, visionOS v2 has #LowLevelMesh and #LowLevelTexture, and so I can start to move to #RealityKit

<sigh/> truth is, #tapprtv for #visionOS is afflicted by a random but persistent bug that I cannot track down. Using #CompositorServices, In the middle of my renderFrame function, the worldTrackingProvider pauses. This smells like a race condition to me. With that unexpected paused, the device anchor can’t be queried, the drawables aren’t presented, the layerRenderer becomes invalidated, and my render thread exits.
Know anyone who has successfully shipped using CompositorServices?

This is the studio in #tapprtv. I modeled it after GarageBand, with tracks as layers, the ability to solo or mute a track, set the input method, wand, and symmetry, and the ability to lock or clear a track. It was designed for #iPadOS, and I was able to make usable on an #iOS.
I have to completely re-imagine the studio for #visionOS. Not only do I need all these controls, but also the ability to place, orient, and scale tracks. I *need* to get rendering working in #RealityKit.

#tapprtv welp, with v1.1.1 about to hit the store, its about time to merge this #visionOS branch back into main. On the one hand, super proud of what I was able to pull together, leveraging existing tech and adopting new paradigms. On the other hand, the more I explore spatial computing, the more ideas I have for the future!

i FaceTime called a bunch of friends today on the #VisionPro Most were … stunned … but also intrigued. My mom got over it pretty quickly, and we ended up spending about an hour together. I shared my view to show her the basics of #visionOS and #tapprtv. Showing your view in FaceTime is a secret awesome feature!

How many times have you been thru #AppReview? For #tapprtv, alone, I just counted 89 builds submitted, and approved, over 14 years.
And I’ve had to address many rejections, for mostly minor things. In each case, I worked with Apple and we worked them out.
Is it stressful? Yes!
Will it happen again? Probably.
Is it worth it? Hell yes! The amount of happiness my customers get is obvious; you can literally see them dancing with joy!

@magnus919 @kern MVP, exactly. I’ve had to make peace with some difficult limitations and make hard choices over the last 6 months. And like anyone who ships a 1.0, I have to hold my head up high and be very proud of “starting”. Given past experiences, I have very high hopes for the future. Let’s go! #visionOS #tapprtv

#tapprtv at one point, I had music playback implemented for your music library, Spotify, Rhapsody, iTunes previews (🍎 nixed it), (considered deezer,) and #AppleMusic. Then a few years later, for various reasons, I dropped everything but Apple Music and your library. One of the best cuts of code I ever made!
Why does Apple keep approving of tappr.tv? I want to believe they negotiated your right to dance to your iTunes purchases and Apple Music subscription.
Tuesday, I get to ask officially.

@markv devs can’t truly delve into spatial computing until they have hardware in-hand. That said, my app #tapprtv was always designed and built ready for a 3D UX. Soon you’ll be to dance with your hands to your favorite Apple Music, and share that with others. Too bad the simulator doesn’t simulate hand tracking, or I’d be further along. #visionOS

Apple uses the phrase “Included with Apple Music” to indicate apps that use #MusicKit APIs and require an Apple Music subscription in order to function fully. See Apple Music Classical for an example.

Unfortunately, I don’t think most people understand this nomenclature. I wish the App Store had an actual badge for Apple Music apps.
Someday maybe App Store editorial will write “Do More with Apple Music” and feature apps like #tapprtv

I’d like to implement the #tapprtv particle system via #Metal mesh shaders, if only to add yet another render technology. I’m up to 3 so far, or 4 if we count the start off #RealityKit on #visionOS! I can also envision creating a next-gen set of wands.

I suppose if someone peruses my timeline they will see me as a grumpy old fool, all of which is painfully true.
That said, I am super excited about #tapprtv on #visionOS. I’ve been dreaming of visualizing music since the late 1990s, and started tappr.tv on the introduction of the iPad in 2010.
Amazingly, thousands of you found it and danced to your favorites songs, sometimes lots of them! Now there are literally 5 thousand dances waiting for you to watch and dance along in 3D.
