There's a Japanese phrase 雀の涙 (suzume no namida, lit. tears of a sparrow, sometimes 雀の涙ほど) which is a formal business-ey phrase that roughly translates to 'this small amount' that implies that they aren't able to afford/gather the whole amount of something.
Unironically, RADWIMPS has a song titled that in the Suzume movie (so punny, Suzume), that uses it literally to say that the tears of the singer are small like those of a sparrow.

I just watched #SuzumeNoTojimari (or just Suzume) by #MakotoShinkai, which I quite liked.
It was a mix of fun, dramatic and touching at times. And it has what must be the strangest chase scenes I've ever seen…

@askDNA #SuzumeNoTojimari is easily my favorite animated film if not film in general in a LONG time. Was really salty that Boy and the Heron won best animated film just because it's Miyazaki
The theming and metaphor of Suzume is powerful, the animation is beautiful, the acting is top notch (at least in the JP dub, haven't seen English), and the message hits deep.
Have watched it several times at this point. Just ... I cannot gush enough about that movie :emiliaugh:

I wrote about the experience from my anime pilgrimage to real-life locations from Suzume no Tojimari.
https://cythoplazma.wordpress.com/2024/01/02/suzume-no-tojimari-pilgrimage-kyushu-arc/
The post details some of the Kyushu locations, dives into many of the lessons learned while on the trail, and some of the frustrations with the source material as I was deciding where to go, what is worth the effort, etc.

Just got back from watching Suzume. What a wonderful, enchanting movie. Big time Howl's Moving Castle vibes. Amazing imagery and symbolism that leaves room for interpretation, but still conveys a clear deeper meaning than the surface story.
9/10, maybe even 10. Will need to ruminate on that.

Finally watched #SuzumeNoTojimari with a friend and sobbed my eyes out. I came into it thinking it would be a silly chair romance and came out of it dehydrated and with an scheduled therapy session.

Note MAL : 10/10 !

Dopo i successi di Your Name e Weathering With You, Makoto Shinkai torna oggi nei cinema italiani con Suzume.

9/10

I have many thoughts and many feelings, and i need to ponder on the story more, but i will already say it was an incredible visual feast
It was so beautiful it brought me to tears

I saw this beautiful film with @MauveAlert today!
Highly recommended. Bear in mind that I really love Shinkai's films, especially the themes he explores in them. "Your Name" is probably his most popular and relatable, but this one is similarly weird and lovely and an emotional rollercoaster. The soundtrack is stunning. The animation is gorgeous! I want to see it again. I may put on "Weathering With You" tonight before bed.

#Filmkritik -
