Previously, unwanted messages could be dealt with using content filters, but now the situation is much more complicated: spam posts now contain only images without text, making them difficult to filter. If an effective solution is not found, we risk soon being overwhelmed by a flood of spam in the fediverse.

This latest wave of spam here on Mastodon has been pretty bad over the last 2 - 3 days.
I think I've personally reported close to 50 accounts so far and I'm still getting them as we speak.

⚠️ If you are an admin of a public server, you might want to switch on moderation for sign-ups right now. The spammers are apparently on servers where the admins have unmoderated sign-ups.
