  1. The #spamapocalypse is real! Mastodon needs some sort of shared spamlist option. I mean, we can ban all these accounts at Sauropods.win, but, wow, it would be so much better if they were gone once the first trusted server banned them.

  3. Based on some dodgy regex queries and the limited reach of my instance, it looks like the number of spam affected servers is trending down but the number of spam posts is still actually trending up.

  5. The #AI #spamapocalypse is coming. And it’ll be here sooner than you think, because we still don’t have laws for:

    1. Requiring #ML firms to produce tools capable of detecting the output of their models
    2. Outlawing counterfeiting of humanity

I’m not a Doomer, but it seems lawmakers might not respond swiftly enough.

Therefore, we need to start researching #HumanVerification sooner rather than later.

A last-ditch effort risks laying down the groundwork for tyranny.

  7. @Daojoan The #AI #spamapocalypse is coming!

At this point, I urge us to look forward. Much beyond watermarking and writing legislation that forces the companies producing the models to also produce tools detecting their use.

We should already be looking towards protocols of human verification. And specificallt such that operate in a way that still allowing an acceptable level of anonymity.

It is possible, but not as last-ditch effort.

  9. @noellemitchell There’s also a simple, two-pronged legislation that would be effective in combating this:

    1. Counterfeiting people should be illegal
    2. Any company manufacturing tools to do that, should be legally bound to also produce the tools of detecting it
