Misskey and the Misskey forks (ex: Firefish, Sharkey, etc) seem to also be prone to their storage drives filling with:
• logs
• npm cache

The number one cause of Fediverse servers crashing seems to be the storage drives filling up with cached Fediverse user data — posts, profiles, avatar images, header images, etc.
But, Misskey and the Misskey forks (ex: Firefish, Sharkey, etc) also have an additional challenge that fills up their storage drives —

#SpaceHost is having some problems with its payment provider (Stripe).
I am working on resolving it.

One thing about Akkoma that can cause you problems when hosting it is —
It stores media in the databases.
Including caching the profile images and profile headers from random people on the Fediverse.
This can cause your storage-drive to fill up.
I've seen 40% or more of the storage-drive taken up by this caching.

I can tell you from experience of hosting many people's Fediverse server instances for a number of years now that —
Many Fediverse software (at least currently) do a poor job of cleaning-up their various caches
Caching other people's profiles, images, posts, etc
And, this often ends up filling up the storage drive
And as a result, this is a very common thing that causes down-time for people. Probably the most common

SpaceHost update:
We have been working on making it so SpaceHost hosted Fediverse server instances can be hosted outside of the U.S.
I think our first non-U.S. location is going to be in the EU — I think in Germany.
With the second, maybe Canada.
We have the system built now. And, are now testing it for QA, to make sure everything is working OK.

SpaceHost actually integrated NodeBB back in May 2024, but NodeBB didn't connect to the Fediverse yet.
So, we held off in making it available.
But now, NodeBB Fediverse support is there.
So, after we update to the new version (NodeBB 4.0.0) and do some quality-assurance (QA) testing, we will make it available on https://spacehost.one/

We had a suspicion this might be difficult for some people. And even have work
on our TODO list....
In addition to @spacehost_help being around to answer questions —
The first thing we are going to do to try to help is — write some How-To articles on setting up DNS on the most popular domain registrars.
After that, we are going to try to figure out a way for #SpaceHost to configure the DNS for you.

#SpaceHost should be releasing #Mastodon support Tuesday morning.

By default Kbin doesn't turn on captchas for new user account registrations.
Kbin and Lemmy servers have had problems with bots creating accounts.
Having captchas off by default seems risky to me. And a potential headache for a new Kbin sysop who is still getting familiar with Kbin.
To create a better experience for Kbin sysops, #SpaceHost is going to turn on captchas by default for Kbin servers.
(You can turn it off if you really don't want it.)

One of the Fediverse software that #SpaceHost is integrating that I am very much looking forward to is Nextcloud.
I want to get off of Google Drive.
Nextcloud is an open-source replacement for Google Drive that also supports ActivityPub!

#SpaceHost should start e-mailing invites, to those who joined the waiting-list, for #Firefish starting today.
Probably in the next 2 or 3 hours.
We try to space out the e-mails — and not send it to everyone on the waiting list all at once. So some people on the waiting list might receive their invite next week, or the week after that, etc.
