I have just published a post on my long-form blog about the Summer-Winter 2025-2026 #Solargraphy season.
All five of the solargraphs I shot are there.

On #SolarcanDay , here is the first of my last batch of #Solargraph s . This was put up on the Summer Solstice (here in Perth), and brought in late yesterday (today is the Winter Solstice).
In between, though, we had a huge storm come through, and you can see this in the second suntrail that does not fit the others.
Recycled #Solarcan with #IlfordMultigrade paper. Scanned and then post processed in #Snapseed

I opened the window to let some cool air in and my handmade #solarcan fell off the windowsill and out of the house. So, I opened it. There had been some water ingress, and the result is wild.
You can see the sun paths, occulded by the tree, right in the middle, which is the thing I was trying to capture, but I've no idea where the vertical red and black bands came from.
A lot of the colour comes from the "solarize" filter in GIMP, the negetive is all layers of beige and sepia

My first #SolarCan Puck for a while.
This was down on the south coast of England, Budleigh Salterton, for the photography competition at NOVA #demoparty
I set it up on the seafront last night and collected it just before noon.
The burnt streak heading upwards is the pinhole's view of the sun over those hours. -

I can finally talk about it!
A few weeks ago, the team at #Solarcan contacted me to let me know that I had been selected as their second ever SuperUser!
You can read about why they picked me, and see some of my work here: https://solarcan.co.uk/superuser-rob-masters
I am super chuffed, and humbled. And in just over a week, I'll have a new batch to share with you!

I've been in #edinburgh for a few days and so did a 3 day #solarcan #pinhole #monochrome picture from my hotel window. I didn't catch the path of the sun at all which is a shame, but I'm super chuffed with how it came out.

Six month exposure in a pinhole camera tracking the Sun's movement from summer to winter solstice. This is so cool - you can spot stretches of cloudy days. Have to redo this to catch the summer sun better.
This was taken using #solarcan

#solargraph #solargrafie #solarcan -

Another one year long term pinhole camera exposure, taken between April 2023 and April 2024 in Switzerland. Hail to the #solarcan ! :)

Another #solarcan puck that missed the sun; or rather there wasn't enough sun to burn through the relentless grey of this week. I thikn it rotated at some point two because the outline of the houses is duplicated but at 90 degrees. It might be a rubbish #solargraph but it's a rather nice #pinholecamera photo I guess

Today a different approach of #solarimaging.
After 525600 minutes of collecting photons, my #solarcan image of 2023 is ready.
The image shows the path of the sun above my backyard in #heidelberg over a period of 12 months.

2023 in pinhole solargraphs. Twelve months, two angles of watching the sun cycle through a #SolarCan Puck. Each frame is ~10 days of exposure.
First view looking East-ish, second view to the south. The path of the sun was a bit too high in the summer and distorted by the double-glazing of the window it was stuck to. #SolarCan #solargraph. Processed in Lightroom and LRTimelapse.

A three month #solargraph at the Guilderton #lighthouse. The lighthouse is below the solar arcs, the other object is a power-pole.
Shot using a #solarcan #puck . Post processed in #snapseed .

My #SolarCan image showing the path of the #Sun each day from around winter solstice 2022 to summer solstice 2023. #astrophotography

I missed #solarcan day, but whilst I was away my latest homebrewed can took this. I can't explain the hard shapes, but the swoosh of the sun is very satifying

Solar Cans! Mounted on my neighbor's balcony six months ago in negative temps, collected two days ago in 90° sunshine. I tried not to overwork them too much in Lightroom, but couldn't help but add a little bit of juice. Pretty happy conclusion to six months of waiting!

Another #Solarcan exposure, from mid-July to end 2022, NT, Australia.
There's some water ingress, paper creasing and a ghost of the Solarcan sticker for flavour.
The sun lines show plenty of clear sky and there's a reasonable capture of the buildings.
Placement: JDRAU. Exposure: JTRUK. -
I'm so happy I happened to find my Solarcan today.
It's a pin hole camera designed to take a super long exposure of the sun. Summer solstice is the perfect time to start it going 🌞
#solarcan #photography #sol -
It's the #solstice so I've just developed my #SolarCan images and put some new ones up.
These are pinhole cameras for #astrophotography that take a long exposure to record the track of the #Sun across the sky each sunny day. These have been up since the summer solstice in June.
The first one is from the front of the house with the neighbour's house opposite visible on the right of the image.
The other one is pointing along the row of back gardens, with houses either side.

Vandaag is de ideale dag om een #solarcan op te hangen. Lees hier wat je daarvoor moet doen (niemand die het ziet als je je blikje een week later ophangt 😜)

For folks who would like to try this themselves, it's called #solarigraphy or 'beer can photography'.
You can make your own but I *highly* recommend #Solarcan (https://solarcan.co.uk/) made by super-lovely Sam in the Scottish borders.
You can download the manual free from his site for a comprehensive intro to how it works (https://solarcan.co.uk/instructions)Here's one my mum placed in her back garden for three months either side of the solstice.
The gaps in the lines show when cloud covered the sun. -
Since #projects is also legit for non-tech meddles, here are some of my hobby shots from long exposure solar cameras.
The first two are #SolarCan (back garden and #Baltic #Newcastle, up to 6 months. The third is the can itself from that second shot. The last one is a #SolarCanPuck from a wedding venue in West Newcastle over one day.
You place a can firmly, the sun draws an arc each day through the pinhole onto photo paper. You cut it open, scan, and recalibrate/colour it.
Magical #science #art ♥️
