¿Sabían que el nombre completo de Sam Puckett, el famoso personaje de la televisión juvenil, esconde un secreto mitológico que describe perfectamente su comportamiento caótico?
En el mundo de la televisión y la literatura existen moldes muy viejos para crear personajes. Históricamente, el papel del joven rebelde, rudo, con un apetito enorme y que resuelve todo con golpes físicos estaba reservado casi exclusivamente para los hombres. Sin embargo, las series iCarly y Sam y Cat rompieron este esquema al entregarle todas estas conductas a una protagonista femenina. Sam Puckett no solo adoptó estas características, sino que las llevó al extremo usando un calcetín lleno de mantequilla como arma defensiva y mostrando una obsesión total por la comida. Lo más interesante es que los creadores del programa no eligieron su identidad al azar, sino que colocaron pistas muy precisas dentro de sus propios nombres para avisarnos cómo iba a ser su personalidad.
La primera gran ironía se encuentra en su nombre, Sam, que es una forma corta de Samantha. Esta palabra significa textualmente "aquella que sabe escuchar". El chiste se cuenta solo al ver que el personaje se caracteriza por ignorar por completo las órdenes de los directores escolares, los consejos de sus amigos y cualquier tipo de norma social. Pero el dato verdaderamente profundo está en su apellido, Puckett. Esta palabra viene de los términos nórdicos e ingleses antiguos puca y puki, que se usaban en la época medieval para nombrar a un duendecillo travieso. De esta misma raíz proviene el famoso personaje Puck de la obra Sueño de una noche de verano del escritor William Shakespeare, quien se dedica a hacer bromas pesadas y desatar confusiones en el bosque.
Shakespeare tomó a este duende directamente de las leyendas de la mitología celta y británica, donde estos seres mitológicos son descritos como criaturas sumamente caóticas y temperamentales. Según los relatos antiguos, estos espíritus no son malos por naturaleza, pero les fascina armar alborotos, hacer trampas para molestar a los humanos y se calman únicamente si la gente les deja ofrendas de comida en las puertas de sus casas. Esta descripción encaja perfectamente con el comportamiento de Sam Puckett, quien es capaz de desatar el caos en cualquier lugar con sus inventos, pero se vuelve pacífica en cuanto aparece un plato de tocino o de pollo frito, demostrando que su actitud indomable tiene raíces que se remontan a los mitos más viejos de Europa, he aquí una razón más por la cual todos los que publicamos en esta cuenta admiramos y apreciamos bastante al personaje de Sam Puckett.
