If you leave snow on the ground the sun will melt it a little and then that water freezes over night. That's how you get icy paths.

If you sweep it up in the morning while it's fresh, literally with a push broom, the sun melts what little remains and the water runs off. The sun heats the dark sidewalk surface. No ice. Just keep sweeping every morning when more snow falls.

No ice. No salt. No hassle.

Today the universe gave me a gift so I paid it forward.

I received a text from a kind person reaching out to let me know my package was delivered to their building by mistake. When I called the company to let them know what happened, they said they wouldn’t charge me again after already giving me a refund.

I sent the kind person a gift card. It’s treacherous out there + they didn’t have to walk over to me.

Today’s #TMYK (5/365) is learning the name for a thing that I knew existed and could describe, but didn’t know the phrase for.

“Galloping lines” are when ice builds up on wires making them more susceptible to wind. That’s the top concern for our electric utility today as we work through our winter weather which apparently now includes a blizzard. #TMYK365

Hey, frozen and/or snowed in friends. It’s a hard time to be a bird out there.

If you can, your feathered friends need food, but more importantly they could use some unfrozen water. They can eat snow, but melting it lowers already low body temps and burns calories needed for survival.

BONUS: You’ll likely be the only game in town and get quite a show 🤩

The winter weather has arrived! I took one step on our front deck and about lost it with a pretty cool slide. The security cameras caught it. Ha!

OK, #KC-area people. I’ve gathered all the heavy duty extension cords, bought some ethanol-free gas, filled a few gallons of drinking water.

Later today I’ll dig out the snow blower, find the snow shovel and change the oil in the generator.

The KC metro area might get walloped by some winter weather this weekend. Estimates are all over the place.

One thing I do know is that Costco and ALDI look like they've been ransacked. I don't think I've ever seen ALDI as bad off as it was tonight. MANY empty shelves and sparse stock on everything else.
