SOE agent Anne-Marie Walters survived the war and was awarded the MBE, the Croix de Guerre and the Médaille de la Reconnaissance française. In 1946, she published an account of her experiences with the SOE titled Moondrop to Gascony which won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in 1947. Walters died in France October 2, 1998, at the age of 75. Mar 16, 1923: On this date Anne-Marie Walters was born in Geneva, Switzerland. She served in the Special Operations Executive as a courier in F Section, WHEELWRIGHT circuit. Her SOE Code name was Colette. She arrived in France on Jan 3, 1944. At age 20, she was the 2nd youngest SOE agent to serve in the field. (1/2)

Mar 16, 1921: On this date, future Special Operations Executive agent Didi Nearne was born. She, her sister, and her brother all worked for the SOE. Didi was a radio operator using the code name “Rose.” She transmitted messages for the SPIRITUALIST, MUSICIAN, and FARMER circuits. (1/2)

#VirginiaGiuffre also helped shed light on the predatory role of #JeffreyEpstein’s girlfriend, #GhislaineMaxwell, who was later described by prosecutors as always on the lookout for girls she could cajole into meeting privately with Epstein.
The girls were then often ensnared into his web of sex-for-favors at locales such as his Manhattan townhouse & his private islet, Little St. James, in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

#VirginiaGiuffre’s allegations of being forced repeatedly into sex w/Andrew touched off a media firestorm & legal battles for Andrew, who did not face #criminal proceedings but was eventually stripped by the #monarchy of his formal duties & titles including “his royal highness.”
A civil lawsuit filed by Ms. Giuffre against Andrew ended in 2022 with a reported $16M settlement by the prince, who borrowed some of the payout money from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. -
In court papers, lawsuits & interviews spanning nearly a decade, #VirginiaGiuffre recounted how she—then named Virginia Roberts—first came under #JeffreyEpstein’s grip as a 16-yr-old & described her travel on private jets to hideaways & parties to be “passed around like a platter of fruit” to his influential friends.
Among them, she said, was Andrew, the younger brother of then-Prince Charles (now King Charles III) & once 2nd in line to the throne. -
#VirginiaGiuffre, who roiled the British monarchy with detailed allegations of being coerced as a teenager into sex [#rape] with #PrinceAndrew as part of a suspected #SexTrafficking network led by financier [& friend of #Trump] #JeffreyEpstein, died April 25 at her home in Western Australia. She was 41.

Yvonne Baseden was captured by the Gestapo on June 26, 1944 & ultimately imprisoned at Ravensbrück concentration camp. She survived Ravensbrück and the war. She was awarded the MBE by Britain; the Legion of Honour; the Resistance Medal and the Croix de Guerre avec Palme by France. She died Oct 28, 2017 at the age of 95. (2/2)

Mar 18/19, 1944: Overnight on this date in 1944, Special Operations Executive agent and wireless operator Yvonne Baseden (Field name Odette) is one of the youngest SOE women to parachute into occupied Europe. She worked in the WHEELWRIGHT and SCHOLAR circuits under the cover name Yvonne Bernier and posed as a shorthand typist & secretary. (1/2)

Today in 2010, Andrée Peel died in Long Ashton at the incredible age of 105.
Born and raised in France as Andrée Virot, she joined the French Resistance during World War II and saved the lives of 102 allied pilots. Andrée survived torture and concentration camps.
She later lived for many years in Long Ashton with her husband, where she worked as a healer.
She features in Unsung Women in Somerset.
