I played a bunch of Settlers II yesterday. As a teen I was unable to even get past the first map and now I managed to beat even the second one. Yes, the game is about waiting and just looking at your little guys going about their business, but that's so relaxing - if your economy is working, that is.
In German you have the great word of "Wuselfaktor" when a lot of small animations are playing. Though the creator initially called it the Aquarium effect. Always loved that about good old German simulation games. Wondering if that's still around?

Vaihteeksi pikseligrafiikkaa.
Return to the Rootsin ideakanavalla nousi esiin että RttR:ään voisi tehdä uuden kansan Settlers 1:n tyylisillä rakennuksilla.
Joten nyt sitten tuhlasin tämmöisen piirtämiseen aikaani: Settlers 2:n viikinkien sahan mittoihin mukailtu hieman Settlers 1:n tyylinen rakennus.
Aina kyllä riittäisi parannettavaa... varsinkin kun teen näitä grafiikkajuttuja aika harvoin. Mutta kai se kelpaa varsinkin kun ei hajua meneekö tämä maaliin asti

Tänään ohjelmassa: organisoi ja kirjoita koko saitti vihdoin uusiksi. Kunnon kevätsiivous koska nykyisessä koodikannassa on sälää noin 20 vuoden ajalta.
Tuleva koodikanta löytyy Codebergista (vanha on edelleen GitHubissa).

There‘s a version of The Settlers (Die Siedler) for Nintendo DS. Usually, PC game releases for NDS are somehow comicified remakes. And while the game box suggests exactly that, the actual game surprisingly is a direct port of the 1996 DOS version of The Settlers II: Veni Vidi Vici! 🤩

I redesigned #Settlers2Net with new content! Especially the guides to various basic stuff and mechanisms of the game have been greatly improved.
Now the site has a blog with RSS feed, and moving the posts away from the front page made space for some beginner friendly directions.
#RttR is also now with some more visibility on the site so it isn't mostly only original #settlers2 anymore.
Oh and I removed birdsite links and added in Mastodon instead.
