Die Siedler II was released 30 years ago in Germany on 17th April 1996 for DOS.

Alongside X-Wing and Worms, this was one of the first games that I played for a considerable time and really understood how to play, other than having a turn at platformer or fighting games on a friend's console.

Small update on my #Thinkpad 755C. I put in a 4GB CF-Disk (8GB isn't supported by the BIOS) and installed #MSDOS 6.22 with #Windows311 on one partition and #Windows95 on a second partition.
It was a bit painful to find all necessary drivers, and the #DOS driver for the soundcard is almost unusable - mostly distorted and when speech is output, the laptop freezes. The Windows 95 drivers are better, but I haven't gotten the DOS games to use them, yet.
Also, some games like #Albion or #TheSettlers don't like the Western Digital graphics card.
But a lot of the old games I liked work fine, like #MightAndMagic 4/5 and #IndianaJones 3 and 4. It's more a nostalgia project, I know the games work better using DOSBox or Wine.

Yesterday, some friends and I got together to watch #TheSettlers in which #LouisTheroux visits the growing community of religious-nationalist Israelis who have settled in the occupied West Bank.

At first I wondered how #Theroux (again) gets these people to incriminate themselves in front of running cameras.

But the sick reality is that these people are so mentally broken that they are happy to call for genocide on camera.

It has to be resisted with all that we have.

A proper return to The Settlers (under another name).

I played so much of the first two Settlers games (1993, 1996).

The original Settlers had co-op on the Amiga, via plugging in a 2nd mouse for split-screen.

The Ubisoft sequels were so botched & hardly recognizable as the same series.

So I'm really grateful to see Volker Wertich involved in this, it's a return for sure. Plus an emphasis on cooperative co-op!
