Beltane Reflection – Standing in the Fire: Sacred Endurance in Pagan Spirituality
Beltane Arc: This essay assumes action has begun and remains, following the commitments named in Choosing What to Feed: Pagan Discernment Around Energy and Growth. With one week left before Beltane, the season tightens in a way I can feel in my body. What I have noticed, I have fed. What I have fed has begun to take form. The room for reconsideration hasn’t vanished, but it has narrowed into something sharper than preference. At this point, asking what I want feels beside the point. The […]https://pagangrove.wordpress.com/2026/04/29/standing-in-the-fire/

Yesterday was the last official day of our trip. While bittersweet all things must come to an end sometime. The poor older lady in our group was confused and heartbroken though. Our guide was great, and took us to more Indigenous centres than others would see.

The #Vestals
Young women from #Patrician-only families (later expanded to #Plebian families) were chosen to serve as Vestals. They had to remain celibate for 30 years, but after their service, were free to marry. Unlike most Roman women, they “were free to own property, make a will, and #vote.”
They were given the responsibility of maintaining #Vesta’s #SacredFire, “collecting water from a #SacredSpring, preparation of food used in rituals and caring for sacred objects in the temple's sanctuary.”
They made a special flour, “mola salsa,” that was “sprinkled on all public offerings” to the gods. They were also in charge of the safekeeping of wills and testaments of prominent people, such as Casear and
Marc Antony (Connelly, 219).#VestalVirgins #RomanPriestesses #RomanWomen #History #RomanHistory #AncientHistory #Histodon #Autonomy #WomensRights #WomenVoting
