Read this: “What Dennett omitted was that Australia, with a population of 28 million, has just under one datacentre per 100,000 people, compared with 1.5 per 100,000 people in the US, population 342.7 million.” With this sole paragraph, Josh Taylor (The Guardian Technology reporter) is perfunctorily dismissing the rest of his article parroting the #MarketingHype that the pro#Datacenters *brain addled* would be *Rentiers* are making to temper #Australian #communities ‘ concern with the *factual* environmental damage done by those #AIComputingFarms.
IMO, the author lazily resorts to gross population statistics to say it’s worse here than in the US without adddressing any of the statements from the demented financial speculators he glibbly quotes. You simply cannot compare a bad situation against another bad situation to make a point, because it’s all bad, and that’s is the point the author should have addressed. Any detrimental environmental impact is harmful to living things.
