I swear somethings up with weather prediction this year. I headed out for a walk / shopping an hour ago, and although I could see some distant clouds which looked threatening there were no weather watches or warnings and no forecasted precipitation.
Fast forward to 15 minutes ago and suddenly there's both a thunderstorm and squall warning from Environment Canada, at which point the heavens opened and the thunder sounded.

RE: https://mstdn.ca/@MTL_Transit_Status_en/116216384178293544
More fool me for getting REM’d this morning.
The three stations between Édouard-Montpetit and Gare Centrale are functionally an important part of the Metro network at this juncture.
So, I ended up taking the long way around the mountain, which was about as much time as I’d have had to wait for the REM to restore service in the end (~25 minutes).
Not sure what my point is here 🤔

I think this is the first time we’ve experienced an orange alert under the new system?
Hope this one won’t be as bad as the one two years ago, but just in case we have the candles ready for those extra-cosy power cut vibes.

The Windsor-Quebec City corridor got hit with two winter storms in 4 days -- some areas have received 60+cm of snow, with drifts over a meter.
If you've got cabin fever, bundle up and check on neighbours! Check to make sure they've got heat and are stocked up on food.
Heat pumps work by circulating air -- if they're blocked by snow drifts, they don't work as well.
Also, make sure exhausts from dryers and high-efficiency gas furnaces aren't covered by snow.

Would you like a side portion of storms with your storms, followed by storms for desert?
