  1. Start the day at 3am while storms roll through? Sure, why not. Mostly just flashes of distant lightning and the occasional rumble of thunder, which in turn sets off everyone's motion sensing lights.

  7. Looks like it’s been raining at home quite a bit, another half an inch in the last 24 hours with more coming. Big storm last week brought tornados to Woodstock and Lincoln Vermont.

  9. We're nearing a complete #freeze over of #LakeChamplain - a rare occurrence in recent years. #WCAX recently reported that the lake regularly froze solid in winters into the 1940s. Since the 1970s, freezes have occurred in half or less than half of winters. This would be the first freeze of the 2020s.

  13. And worse and worser. Looking like this could be a disaster. #vermont #vtwx #icestorm

  14. They’ve updated the map for the ice storm, with higher totals than they had been showing for several updates previously. #vermont #vtwx #icestorm

  15. Vermont has some strong storms rolling through and it looks like they're pushing towards the NH border.

I don't think I'll get much where I am, but we'll see how it shakes out.

  16. My weather report, a town in southern-ish #Vermont along the eastern border — NOAA forecast Discussion and Hazardous Weather Outlook is pretty apocalyptical between ice and wind. If I look at the same for the town just across the river/border, in #NH, it’s No Big Deal. No ice particularly. Each town at the distant border of different NWS offices, Burlington and Gray, ME.

I’m guessing these two towns get about the same weather, in spite of the wildly different forecasts. We’ll see…

  19. @ai6yr Soils in New England and adjacent parts of Canada are already near saturation. Flooding, like you say, is the main threat but saturated soils also make it easy for trees to fall over in what might generally be considered benign wind speeds.

Sorry for the million hashtags to follow there’s lots of little states here.

"Between 2 and 5 inches of rain fell in parts of Addison County, according to Jessica Storm, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Burlington office, and up to 6 inches hit Middlebury and Ripton. More rain and flooding was expected Friday, she said, and a flood watch was issued for much of the state." #VTwx #Vermont #AddisonCounty #Middlebury #Ripton
