Early in April, we woke up to freezing rain. The garden became coated with ice. The birds moved about eating seeds, and I ventured out into the rain with my camera. I took some quick photos of the ice on the maple tree, chicken wire, and last year’s switch grass, and milkweed pods. I figured I would come back out a little later, but the rain got warmer, and within an hour, it melted away the sculpture it had been working on all morning. #icestorm #garden #nativeplants

"Parallels have been made to The Great Michigan Fire of 1871, which swept across the state and impacted 2.5 million acres.
The ice storm impact area is not only larger but modern infrastructure and populations make it almost impossible to compare."

Living in a small town comes with a lot of downsides. Absolute truth. I can't get delivery of anything to my house, I have to drive to another town to get to any grocery store or big box store, I have no fast food nearby, prices at the party store are sometimes double what they are at Walmart or Family Fare. It can really suck.
However, this state of emergency has really shown how a community can come together. I have seen people delivering wood for free, food giveaways, showers...

Well, we are now at "crews are making repairs." It still says tomorrow at 6pm, but I feel a little better knowing they are in my immediate neighborhood. A couple of friends have gotten power back long before the estimated restoration time so this gives me hope. Of course, one lives in another county even though they have a Rosco address and the other lives quite a ways from me. But... It's seeming more positive than when I woke up this morning.

Still no power though I hear that they have restored power on the north side of Higgins Lake so hopefully they will work their way around to us tonight.
Watched a huge branch fall near the driveway. It hit the power pole, but amazingly the lines all stayed up. The pole and lines shook for quite some time.
Heard from some people heading south that there were a lot of linemen heading north on I-75. So help is here and more is coming.
