Migrated the #homelab from IPtables to NFTables fully today. Unfortunately, #wireguard via the wireguard-pia container still uses IPtables, so had to add in a few kernel modules to let it work.
Sad panda.

Both more and less than a budget VPN
I came into this review thinking of Private Internet Access (PIA) as one of the better VPNs. It’s…

Glad I stopped using PIA.

Ensure that if you have an account with #PIA private internet access, know that ALL accounts are set to auto-renew by default. You MUST opt-out manually.
This company is a far cry from what it was when I initially signed up years ago. It has only gotten worse, and this is the nail in the coffin for me doing business with them.

Ensimmäistä kertaa kaukojunassa varmaan noin viiteen vuoteen. VR:n wifi blokkaa aika tehokkaasti VPN-yhteydet.

This company is one of the main supporters of the Arch Linux User Repositories, and claims to be privacy centric, claiming to have supported many Free and Open Source Software projects (thanks!) as well as the EFF.
They appear to have overlooked the potential privacy problems of cross-site resources, which the EFF's own Privacy Badger picks up! I'm not sure how compatible this is with their no-logs policy.

I've had good luck with #PrivateInternetAccess

I just woke up to #PIA routing all my traffic through China instead of the US, with all my Quick Connect settings erased. #PrivateInternetAccess
EDIT: I pay for their service because it is Linux friendly, so this was very interesting to see.

@kgw No, no. It's not an IPA! #PrivateInternetAccess is a commercial, paid subscription #VPN that I've used for 7 years. I was thinking of replacing it with #OpenVPN which also gets good reviews but I've learned that when things go sideways in #Linux, getting it unscrewed can be a major hassle. #PIA doesn't slow me down and I've never experienced a problem that didn't resolve itself within minutes. Try their free version.

So happy with my VPN, I have always liked to always be on a VPN but previously, I had found the software just didn't do a very good job of that. After recent events I renewed the idea of just putting every system I own constantly on a fully secure VPN. I'm using Private Internet Access (PIA) and it has been super, super reliable. Connections reconnect fast when I go from cellular to WiFi and such, not like the old days at all!
Oh and best of all, the Split Tunnel is working beautifully on my Mac running Sonoma, absolutely beautifully. The one thing I need to have off the VPN (ZeroTier) has no problem at all.

Can anyone vouch for the #VPN #PrivateInternetAccess for #torrenting?

Anyone else seeing an issue with #PIA #PrivateInternetAccess sending enormous numbers of outbound calls to malicious addresses when it's running? I reinstalled from the latest image and it's still doing it. They're getting flagged by #Malwarebytes, but they aren't false positives; I'm checking these against known report portals directly and they're all flagged as dangerous ... Immediately stops when the VPN client is disconnected. (Doesn't seem to happen when I've got the tunnel active though).

"Before 2018, Kape Technologies was called Crossrider and it was an infimous player in the malware industry."

@clacke @mansr
yeah, here you can see #PrivateInternetAccess doing some damage control:«Private Internet Access has no connection to Freenode at all anymore. It WAS owned by London Trust Media, which also owned PIA, but Kape acquired PIA in December of 2019 and has had no connection since then. We do not have any involvement or knowledge of any takeover of Freenode»

Private Internet Access VPN is merging with Kape (aka Cross Rider). You may know Cross Rider for such things as: hiding malware in software bundles; leaking user information to private and public entities of its choosing; and dodgy browser extension spyware.
PSA: If you want privacy, don't trust a third party VPN. Roll your own VPS; and make sure to ditch PIA.
