  23. Ongoing, and very worrying, trend in Australia.

    Increasingly authorities and governments are dropping the requirements and qualifications needed for its enforcement staff to carry lethal weapons.

    Shorter training in Victoria, decreasing literacy and numeracy levels in SA, and arming staff outside usual police ranks in the NT.

    We have seen the current ‘highly trained’ police misuse their lethal powers. Dropping the standards even further isn’t going to provide better outcomes.
