  4. A stick insect (probably western short-horned walkingstick, Parabacillus hesperus). I rescued it from our pool this morning.

  5. A Stick Insect, Presbistus peleus, spotted at Dairy Farm Nature Park, Singapore, along the Wallace Trail, on 17 June 2024. Looked like a twig stuck to the leaf, but decided to have a closer look and saw what it was.

Stick Insects are, of course, a master of disguise and usually only move when necessary. So, spotting one is never easy.

Great find. Note the original photo is up side down relative to yours.

The wings are also blue-red and very cute.

  8. Seven new ‘walking leaf’ #insect species discovered theguardian.com/environment/20

On seven undescribed #LeafInsect species revealed within the recent “Tree of Leaves” (#Phasmatodea, Phylliidae) zookeys.pensoft.net/article/10

"Researchers used genetic analysis to identify species that cannot be distinguished by appearance alone"

  9. Starting a new project to study #genomics of the smelly stick insect Agathemera from #Patagonia 🇦🇷,the only #Phasmatodea adapted to such extreme conditions & reaching the end of the world. Got one, not a good idea to hold it for a pic… now I stink! 😅🤢

  10. A winter visitor, the stick insect. The elegant and discreet structure of head and eyes (you really don't want these to be obvious if you're pretending to be something with no head and no eyes) is pretty amazing.

  11. CW: insects

last summer, in spain — i am not sure but it might have been a phasmatodean (gespenstschrecke). correct me if i am wrong, please! nearly perfect camouflage in the lavender bushes. #InverteFest #spectra #Phasmida #Phasmatodea. i have seen them rarely, so once again just mobile phone snapshost with many deficiencies.
