Darktable, Negadoctor, and Flextight: A workflow demonstration.
https://tube.hunter.camera/w/peGzgX83EnY8bMPrrnCwc4
I literally spun up a peertube instance on my server for this. Hope this is a little demonstration gives back to the communities that produce the tool I use.
Thanks @darktable for making the tools open and accessible

I'm pretty happy with what I'm achieving in #darktable's #negadoctor module when it comes to B&W images. So much in fact, that I'm redoing all of my Scotland pics in DT.
I scanned some color negatives from yesterday...and boy is that a different beast. I'm going to need a lot more practice when it comes to color negs.

@rstub Maybe that's where I went wrong? My first #negadoctor frame was part leader, part exposed image. Here's a result frame versus #Vuescan result. EDIT: And a 4th frame straight from Filmomat #SmartConvert demo. #BelieveInFilm

First attempt at B&W reversal in #darktable via #negadoctor. Don't remember offhand which camera/film stock this was (likely #IlfordHP5 or #KodakTriX) but it was scanned via #NikonD850 and I edited straight from the RAW file. This is from a few months back.
I used negadoctor and the monochome module, then because the image was pretty flat I cranked up the contrast. I may have overdone it, but I really like high contrast B&W so others may disagree.
I also took a digital camera out and about today, and I think that will be my first foray into a digital RAW workflow with darktable.
Clearly, I have a lot to learn - but I'd love to get away from Adobe. If #NegativeLabPro fulfills their goal of making a standalone, that would also be a big step - I love how NLP renders my negatives so having that happen on the front end (either on my MacBook or via WINE on my Linux machine) would also be a game changer.
As always, open to suggestions!

@simon_diamond The results were so rubbish I assumed it must have been long expired. It was in the mju II, which is clearly playing up as the frame spacing is bonkers! (Also no box tab) I did make some Raw-DNG files, so I'll use them to experiment with inversion apps. I don't have LR so NLP is not available. I'll try @darktable #Negadoctor first, though last time I couldn't make it work!

Just checked the manual for @darktable #negadoctor. It says "When scanning or photographing your film negative, make sure you include some unexposed part of the film within the captured image. This is required to set the Dmin parameter..." Unfortunately, I just scanned the full frame as per usual (the #Plustek7500i film holders make it hard to do otherwise). I think this means I can't use negadoctor on these scans. Next time I'll have to remember to scan some of the un-devved leader...

WIP: Most of the pictures from my trip this summer to Montenegro and Albania still need to be scanned and or processed. This is one of the few that I selected for testing and adjusting the setup. Not quite happy yet with the quality of the scan (dust on my sensor), so I might scan it again.
Pay phone, #Nikon Fe2, 35mm, #Kodak Pro Image 100
Scanned with a Nikon #D7200 and processed in #darktable with the #negadoctor module.

Since I want to get back into analog photography, I am currently trying to build my own DSLR scanning pipeline. The first result doesn't look too bad already. Currently I have the following setup: a negative holder made out of cardboard, #Thinkpad #T14 4K screen as a light panel, #Nikon #D7200 with a Micro Nikkor 105mm lens mounted on a tripod.
For postprocessing I used #Darktable with the #Negadoctor module.#blackandwhite #analogphotography #filmfotografie #photography
