Weird case today in my hobby of #RaspberryPi #electronicsrepair - a dead CPU, but all major ICs are fine: DA9090, VL805, FPF1320UCX...
And there's more: CPU was shorted on a 1V8 rail 🤔.
So a note to self on reballing and replacing similar ICs: use airflow around 40%, don't put a hot air nozzle on and don't underestimate hot air rotation while heating the stencil and the chip. You'll thank yourself later 😊.

Got a Pi 4B with a torn CPU the other day. Removed the lead free solder residue and discovered that a few pads were torn. One of them is important, so had to repair it with 0.02mm wire. I still can't believe it, but it works 🎉.

It had a blown PMIC (RK806-1), as you can see on the pics.
Cool fact - anyone can easily buy those chips.
Not cool fact - those Oranges are sucking the heat badly.
So I had to put it on the preheater to replace the chip, because hot air alone either won't provide enough heat or would burn the board.
But it's all good in the end - one more fix ✅.

However today I received a new tool that helps quite a lot with reballing - I definitely recommend it.
It's a cheap thing with a magnet in the middle and a silicone mat from AliExpress, but who would have thought that it keeps any stencil in place so well - even I can reball with ease now 😃.

Another one arrived a few days ago - this one had a missing memory resistor and a burned RAM chip in addition to the burned DA9091 PMIC.
Sadly even after swapping RAM and DA9091 from a healthy board it didn't come back to life either no matter what I tried. Maybe the CPU got damaged alongside the RAM when it was pressed or hit with something.
